dirrtydiana Posted January 25 Posted January 25 And this is why I can’t be impressed by the “songwriters” this forum gushes over 4

Janet truly was ahead of the curve when it comes to foreign policy and justice which is probably why she was really cancelled. No but she truly was. At the height of the Nipplegate blacklash she said multiple times that she believed the Bush administration was using her to divert the public's attention from the Iraq war fiasco. Nobody listened as they were too busy vilifying and mocking her but she was obviously right and political commentators now say the same thing. Janet: "I truly feel in my heart that the president wanted to take the focus off him at that time, and I was the perfect vehicle to do so at that moment. When you see Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11, it just confirms it." "It's hard to believe that there's a war and famine going on in the world and yet people made such a big deal about a breast". She added: "Do I vote? Yes, I do. Will I be voting for Bush? Hell, no!" --- Quote Many people believed this witch hunt was a way to influence the election (spoiler: the conservatives won on a platform of “moral values” later that year) and distract the nation from the failing war in Iraq. Janet agreed: "There are much worse things in the world, and for this to be such a focus, I don't understand. They needed something to focus on instead of the war, and I was the perfect vehicle for that." A familial connection that brings Janet's concern into sharp focus: FCC head Michael Powell's father is none other than Colin Powell, George W. Bush's Secretary of State and one of the instrumental figures involved in selling the idea of the Iraq War. Things that make you go hmmm. https://www.kqed.org/pop/20175/nipplegate-revisited-why-america-owes-janet-jackson-a-huge-apology Edited January 25 by Stankonia 4 1
SinnerCity Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Janet has never been afraid of speaking her truth, she doesn’t hide behind fake masks and she’s always shown love to the people that need it the most This song always resonated with me but I didn’t know the backstory and it makes perfect sense it would’ve been inspired by the people of Palestine. I love her so much 1

BraveNewSeth Posted January 25 Posted January 25 How can you not love Janet? She’s one of those people who you can just tell is a truly good person. She radiates positivity and joy and it’s one of the millions of reasons why I love her 1
ICLDXU4HS Posted January 25 Posted January 25 I didn’t know this. Sort of disappointed she didn’t speak out against the genocide, but I can cut queen some slack for being a real one and having a history with blacklisting. 1
Stankonia Posted January 25 Author Posted January 25 The way the black eagle imagery is all over the Unbreakable era (if we can call it that ) visuals I love that she went back to writing and singing about more serious topics with the Unbreakable album. Her "I just want to have fun" phase was becoming old. 1
A1SinceDay1 Posted January 26 Posted January 26 I can't believe I forgot about this, especially with everything going on at the moment. My fave has never been afraid to speak out against injustice, and is always ahead of the curve. 2
