Popular Post Stankonia Posted January 24 Popular Post Posted January 24 I thought It'd be nice to tell this very little known fact about her. In 2015 Janet visited a school in Yata, a city in occupied Palestine as part of her work as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. She entered the West Bank from Jordan where she visited the Zatari and Syrian war refugees camps. A few months after that visit Janet released her lastest album Unbreakable in which she expresses her support of the Palestine people and denounces their oppression through the song "Black Eagle". [Intro] (Once you know You can't not know) [Verse 1] Do you know about the black eagle? Let me tell you about the black eagle Strong and powerful king of the sky Protecting all things with his watchful eyes Faithful creature to the most high What are the visions that he holds [Refrain] You never know Unless you've been there You never know Unless you've been there [Verse 2] Beautiful soul I haven't met A spiritual connection I'll never forget Your precious life Incredible Sharing his love that is meant for us all Come outta the shadows into the light Free to imagine the future you like Soaring above all of your boundaries Yes the day will come Just remember when you're overwhelmed Dream and take some time to love yourself Believe you're free to do whatever you want No, no more room number four [Refrain] You never know Unless you've been there [Verse 3] I'm singing this love song to show my support To the beautiful people who have been ignored With blind eyes and cold shoulders attacking them Invisible people they won't let fit in Let's open our eyes to the true barriers Stereotypical things are the worst Stand face to face with the real ugly truth How would you feel if that was you? Because every life matters (We all need to do better) So we all should try (We all need to do better) A smile A kind word Or extending a hand Helping someone to feel human again If we never start It could be you on the other end [Refrain] You never know (We all need to do better) You never know (We all need to do better) You never know No no You never know With the "no more room number 4" line Janet references the documented tortune of Palestinian children at the hands of the Israeli government. Quote "ROOM NO. 4 is an infamous interrogation room in the Russian Compound—the main Israeli police office in Jerusalem—where Palestinian children are interrogated. Hundreds of Palestinian children are arrested every year in conditions that are not appropriate with their age and that are in violation of Israeli and International laws. The methods and duration of arrest and interrogation are directly reflected in the behavior and actions of the children as they become moody, nervous, impulsive and at times violent. Children also suffer from depression which can take several forms such as crying, fear, confusion, complaints about pain and lack of confidence, in addition to a sense of insecurity. Once children have been released, they are likely to fall behind at school, not able to catch up with their fellow students. This often results in school dropout. No Food, Water, or Toilets “I was thirsty and hungry. When I asked to go to the toilet they told me to pee in my jeans.” —An 8-year-old child." https://www.gate48.org/room-no-4/ https://www.mecaforpeace.org/sahar-abbasi-and-room-no-4-photo-exhibit-a-u-s-tour-about-israeli-arrests-of-palestinian-children/ Interestingly enough Janet has never performed or even visited the apartheid state of Israel. 30 2

I Melt Away Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Will always love Janet for being so outspoken. I appreciate this song even more now. 1
IsidoraMarí Posted January 24 Posted January 24 I LOVED THIS SONG, My fave from Unbreakable. I had no idea. Let me Pick that album back up 1
State of Grace. Posted January 24 Posted January 24 An absolute legend. I remember Unbreakable being my introduction to Janet and the first ever album that I listened to in full from her. I didn't know about the meaning behind Black Eagle until a few years later and I've developed mad respect for her. The album is also quite underrated (like most of her discography) tbh. No Sleeep is that song. 2 2

Apolonio ₃₄ Posted January 24 Posted January 24 A REAL and TRUE Humanitarian! Other old, cracked Zionists should take notes! 2
wildsidenormani Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Oh wow, I had no idea this song was about Palestinians I didn't think it was possible to love her anymore than I do already 1

JanStan Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Janet has always been ahead of the curve. My all time fave and I can’t wait to see her for the 900675th time this summer! 1

She went to dinner with James Packer and the Netanyahus which is where the infamous “oh really… that sucks.” comes from. There was definitely some shady deals going on at that dinner. She thankfully dumped him and sued him for wasting her time. Still not a cute look. 1 1
Damien M Posted January 25 Posted January 25 ^Love Mariah but “I don’t do politics, I just focus on the show” is such an airhead comment ugh
Mean Trees Posted January 25 Posted January 25 I had no idea. I thought it was just a self affirming song but at the deep meaning. Janet truly was ahead of the curve when it comes to foreign policy and justice which is probably why she was really cancelled. 1 2
