Bosque Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Nothing went wrong, I didn’t like Solar Power but at least she stuck by that album and her creative vision. I’m just hoping she’s not releasing some Melodrama rehashes next to regain her commercial success. 3
VioletsandRoses Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Her peak was small and local. It’s not on the same level as Billie or Lana and the recurrents aren’t that great either. Then her 2 albums after that flopped badly. It’s not she was on TFM/21/BD level to begin with. 4
shookspeare Posted January 20 Posted January 20 the kids wanted to hear her sing about su*cide but instead she served tampon commercial aesthetics. so they turned to billie 4 2

The audience were primed for more dynamic uptempo production and a less introverted take on the world around her, she instead embraced hipster culture and boho chic. The sonic path she took as well as the overall creative vision were very obviously driven by Lorde. She talked about all these themes and sonic ideas at length in the album promo cycle. She literally wanted to portray introspective themes throughout all her videos and lyrics in that era, and the album did exactly that. In the same year Jack worked on Dance Fever which has many uptempo songs as well as uptempo songs for Diana Ross. Do y’all never tire of the “Jack took a meek hapless female artist hostage, and she just didn’t have the creative guts to tell him no” narrative? Edited January 21 by Dephira 2 3
Truth Teller Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Lorde is not a writing camp'd popstar so her music ultimately has to reflect her life. When she made PH she was a weird, moody teenager coming into her own. When she made Melodrama, she was actually experiencing young adult life as a celebrity in New York or wherever she was. 5 years later, Solar Power reflected her slower, more introverted, more quiet life during the time it was made. I was in exactly that place when it was released, so I can appreciate the 6 songs on it that don't suck and I wish the rest of you stopped hating and got into them. I fear the backlash and floppage to SP will force her to make either Melodrama 2.0 or Caroline Polachek knock-offs and it's going to be inauthentic and suck 3
Filpo Posted January 21 Posted January 21 She had Royals and Team, but she really is more of a Fiona Apple kind of artist. And that's make her so interesting. 1 1
GentleDance Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Billie and Lorde fans should unite to fight the real enemy : Halsey 1 2

I get strong Sky Ferreira and The 1975 vibes from Silver Moon and Invisible Ink. I think Lorde's voice and songwriting styles are too unique to make her music sound like other artists' knock-offs. And I also think she's too pretentious too release anything too cookie-cutter, so I'm honestly expecting altpop greatness from her. 1

Girl please, if Lorde doesn’t get any success next time then she’s literally the epitome of the word ‘fad’. Which makes this weird hate boner with daily lame shades so ironic for Gaga (not withstanding your Britney stanning which adds up ) The answer is solar power was a risk that didn’t pay off. Team and Green Light are such excellent pop songs though. Edited January 21 by Mr. Stratus 1 1
wildsidenormani Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Her music is a sensory assault with the exception of 'Royals'. That 'Green Light' song was particularly diabolical 1 4

Because she is GOING TO BE successful for at least one of those, probably for both. (if she doesn't that's okay too but i'm not going to talk about that now). She will never be a fad. This doesn't need any explanation. Idk why you talked about Britney in your post, i'm not a Britney hater, or a stan. I can't even connect how she's related to this topic. You must be mixing me up with someone else because I never talked about her in this site before. I don't listen to her & I don't hate her basically I just don't keep up with her or follow her like that. She's not from my era. My Gaga "hate" comes from her stans 90% of the time, not from the artist herself (but sometimes her too). It's definitely only problematic when you hate her though, everyone is 100x more hateful towards Nicki in this site and no one says anything which is weird.
CampfireSmoke Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Melodrama aged badly because it became the genesis of Jack Antonoff's bag of tricks that he recycles through. It's also more a function of age. Pure Heroine and Melodrama were seen as these lyrical geniuses from a teen phenom and then you get this wet noodle from Solar Power that had very little to say. Nobody really cares what a 23 year old thinks about life in a pandemic. 1 3
!ngwe Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Solar power was positive album which is unexpected from her.
James_Joint Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Nothing went wrong, she hasn’t been commercially successful since her debut and it seems she’s fine with that.
Dante Posted January 22 Posted January 22 she turned out to be a one hit wonder she a snob and full of herself 2
Bubble Tea Posted January 22 Posted January 22 I think she's doing everything fine but she really could do with some kind of a hit again. Then again I guess "Royals" was so big that she's probably guaranteed festival spots for the rest of her life. My main problem with her is how infrequently she releases music. I know she said she has already planned the exact number of albums she plans to release so I fear she'll be keeping us waiting years and years her whole career, which is a shame.

Saint James Posted January 22 Posted January 22 well nobody calls Frank Ocean a flop. they have similar careers except Lorde tours.
