liquiddiamonds Posted January 20 Posted January 20 (edited) Solar Power was a misfire, but shes still one of the more interesting pop girls we have and we can always count on her to bring some level of vision and risks with each record , so nothing went wrong. She’s still young and has enough of a cult base to score another hit in the future too if she feels like it Edited January 20 by liquiddiamonds 2 1
Devin Posted January 20 Posted January 20 those cheap, earthy, wh*re tactics in Solar Power was her demise. 4 4

bad guy Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Lorde is Gen Z now? Open the schools. OT: I don’t know. PH was so fresh and cool back then. Then she waited forever to drop another album and people moved on. But at least Olivia finally acknowledged her because Driver License bridge was straight copy-paste of Melodrama and I thought I was going crazy with nobody noticing that.
Devin Posted January 20 Posted January 20 also theres many Lorde-esque girls now which prob explains why she fading. the real question is will the next album smash?
conquxror Posted January 20 Posted January 20 i was going to write a whole text about this until i realized y’all are just being dense and unserious. let’s just say, lorde had her time in the mainstream and clearly did not enjoy it. instead of just keep on repeating the same formula at every release like some other girls, she decided to try something new with each record. sometime people like it, sometime they don’t. it’s clear that she has a very established fan base who will stick around for whatever she releases. 3 1
HANZ94 Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Nothing she took a risk with Solar Power and didn’t pay off but come on she is the genius that created Melodrama and Pure Heroin, she’ll be fine 1

But lately her career feels like a distant, fading memory. What went wrong? I think it is due to her leaving Joel Little for other producers. The instrumental of many of the songs on "Pure Herione" are listenable before the vocals are placed. She became everything she criticised. Didn't she hate on Selena Gomez and not like the way some gurls dressed and now shes in a one-piece performing? 2013 Lorde would have hated on 2022 Lorde. Edited January 20 by Junipero 1 3

Dante Silva Posted January 20 Posted January 20 (edited) She made an error of judgement by continuing to work with Jack Antonoff, he led her too deep down the wrong sonic path. The audience were primed for more dynamic uptempo production and a less introverted take on the world around her, she instead embraced hipster culture and boho chic. I don’t know precisely what happened between them but something occurred in her relationship with Joel Little between her first and second album (probably division of royalties) and she phased him out instead of appreciating the commercial value of their creative energy and synergy. I am aware certain people are of the view “but he then worked with Taylor and the music they made together was sh*te”. I believe that is down to a lack of creative symbiosis between Taylor and Joel and by re-embracing Joel again, I believe Lorde can re-capture the magic their partnership had on her debut. Rebel Lion Posted January 20 Posted January 20 The vibe she gave by showing how much money she has by chilling on some beach while the rest of the world was still figuring life out after the pandemic and coping with the loss of loved ones was not cute. She deserves any backlash she gets. 1

TRF. Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Melodrama was an album that, despite not being a humongous chart success like PH (and Royals/Team) was, still became one of the most acclaimed and impactful albums of that year. It had a lot to live up to. She famously took a lot of time between Melodrama and her third album, during which other "teen icons" like Billie Eilish or Olivia Rodrigo popped up to acclaim and success, whereas her core audience was beginning to grow up and was already well into their 20s. Solar Power kinda flopped in that it was not musically interesting outside of some tracks, did not really have many hooks, and the songwriting was not particularly relatable or deep, qualities had been very much present in her music in general. I hope she will recover, because I still think she's really talented and can really deliver another great album. She still feels like unique force in music, she just needs to find that spark again. Glad Jack Antonoff is most likely not going to be involved in the new stuff for the moment 1 1

She got a couple really big hits, and now has a solid fanbase, can tour for the rest of her life and release music with a decent budget I'm sure. Most would kill for this to be where their careers are at. I think if the question of the thread is "why didn't she end up a major hit-maker for a decade?", she took a long time in between albums because she clearly prioritized creating something authentic and taking her time to perfect the music rather than trying to get a hit non-stop.
