By doing so, they have effectively cut down the purchase by half since Stans can’t go and buy at two different places. I just think that if some artists have a dedicated stan base that are willing to spend money in a period where music is free, their purchases should be weighed quite heavily. Why alternate versions of songs have always existed it only seems like a lot because 3 are explicit and 3 aren’t maybe they can do something about the 69 cent part

An honest question. This strategy has been around for decades. I remember going to the record store as a child in the 2000s, and there being singles on sale on a CD. The CD would consist of the single, the instrumental, the radio edit, the remix, and two or three other club - dance remixes. Billboard counted it then, before, and will continue to do it. 1 2 10
