RIKI232 Posted January 15 Posted January 15 I swear if this ***** is going to give us another poetry book instead of an album full of bops and not songs about trees and flowers
BoDaToe Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Her decline in songwriting since dropping “the Diamonds” is wild to me. Was “the diamonds” her man behind the curtain? A secret ghost writer she dropped? L+F wasn’t terrible but it was incredibly tame and definitely not the same level as Froot or EH. ADIAML was abysmal. Also, as an American it’s incredibly corny for a Brit to drag America so hard when the UK is in absolute shambles its self. Like look at ur own county sis. Plus the whole political pop thing is off putting to a lot of people, didn’t we learn that from Witness? Anyway, I’ve given y’all 2 hit threads: “Was “the diamonds” Marinas man behind the curtain” and “is Marina the British Katy Perry?” 3 4 1

Anyway, I’ve given y’all 2 hit threads: “Was “the diamonds” Marinas man behind the curtain” and “is Marina the British Katy Perry?” shes been obsessed and critical of murica since debut, the difference is that she used to eloquently write about it back in the diamonds days. the thing is she had a big mental struggle with her sense of "self" back in the diamonds day and had a big meltdown between froot and L+F which led her to become just marina because iirc the division between artist and herself was hurting her. once she decided to drop the diamonds she also tried to venture into more generic/mainstream pop and consequently dropped her standards. i think part of it was because she just needed really bad to feel some sort of happiness, and not being so harsh on herself sorta worked. I do think she improved in adiaml, shes not back on MATD levels but I do think she'll never return there in the near future because most of her songwriting's quality came from lived experience and after froot she hasnt had any real struggles in life. I mean she lives a luxury life in LA with 0 worries. My hope is she tries to dig a bit harder on the struggles of being single woman at her age and the pressure to procreate, find someone, aging and losing loved ones. she has the talent i fear shes just missing the content 3

She's probably gone through a whole lotta crap from being in the industry for so long. She's admitted to being in a toxic relationship... yeah she's going to be some type of way. not when her pick me ass has a whole song on her debut about how she's not like the other girls because she doesn't care about how many calories she eats she hasn't made a good song in 9 years because she's too busy making social commentary music with 7th grader level lyricism, I doubt this new album will be any better than her last 2 1 3

OK? She's a very Western feminist which is obvious... I wasn't defending her. And yes, I haven't enjoyed a Marina project since FROOT and yes I think her take on social commentary is cringe but is it that serious?
