it's true the first season of idol was impactful, but kelly's success post-Idol isn't given enough credit for how impactful it was. Not necessarily in terms of setting musical trends, but in the sense that it proved that the singing competition formula could actually work to launch a bonafide music star. If her music career had flopped, it would have kinda dented the show's concept or stopped it from being taken seriously, and now all these years later it's wild to see how many huge stars of the industry come from these kinds of shows that started with Kelly.
