If Miss @Scandal basically got the tea that was going around (album name + description of yes, and?) and everything else was a web of lies.. If them saying Rainbow made it too was a lie.. The only thing holding my sanity together being Shintaro reposting the album cover.. 1
Communion Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Addison Rae being posted as a positive point of comparison... Come back, king, we need you 1
Nashe Posted January 27 Posted January 27 not yall thinking the ponytail lady would book Max and Ilya exclusively to work on a r&b album she's giving us what the majority wants to shut us up for another couple of yrs so she can focus on her acting & makeup 2

humbz Posted January 27 Posted January 27 I'm more inclined to her r&b crossover records, but I'll trust the process this time. she's in a different moment of her career. I'm expecting great things no matter the direction taken. 1

"yes, and?" x 13 would be more pop than either My Everything and Dangerous Woman. This retelling that DW is her "pop" album is.... revisionist. "YA?" captures how light Be Alright is, but the first taste of DW was also the title track - somehow r&b, pop, rock and bluesy at the same time - and Let Me Love You! It features the Ilya produced Everyday w/ Future. It'd be odd to be inspired by r&b for your first six albums and then.. not. Even songs like "Fantasize" went viral for touching on that sweet spot of pop she's always occupied - the lightly r&b influenced kind. (It also opens her up to a line of discourse that I'll avoid mentioning for now for my girly's sanity ) An entire album of euro-dance songs would be an miscalculation out of character for her......but I'm gonna remain positive for now. 5
My20sBlues Posted January 27 Posted January 27 I want an album like Me I am Mariah..., like, that album has dance pop, R&B AND bop after bop (very underrated)

I could just never imagine her going fully, completely pop. It's just not her. And even with her more Max dominated albums, her music always still has her Ariana signature sounds. Hopefully that will still be the case this time around. 9
R.E.M. Posted January 27 Posted January 27 her music has always teetered on the edge of pop and R&B, a sound that separates her from the millions of other poptarts to come and go over the years I also don't think bubblegum/dance does her any favours her biggest strengths are vocals, creating melodies, lush vocal production, etc. which is hard to shine capture with dance music as your primary vehicle 8

Yea, for clarity on my part, songs like Side To Side, Everyday, Bad Decisions, etc. are all clearly pop songs. She’s just never gone for the light and airy sound before. The production had a weight to it. Even the buzzsaw synths on Touch It capture this. My Everything had songs like One Last Time and Break Free, but also Best Mistake and Hands On Me. The deluxe of My Everything being all the first songs she first wrote for the album before being pushed by the label to record with Max. All the stuff that's leaked of Tommy's over the last month showing that both ME *and* DW ended up way more pop than she originally wanted. All the mumble demos from Positions being even more r&b than what made the record and what she was beginning to touch on. There's a clear tension in her career thus far of her own tastes vs the expectations on her as a pop star. There’s a clear sonic journey and evolution in her discography, with each album building closer and closer to it - with the deluxe of Positions giving signs of where many expected her to end up. Her first album in 3 years being instead a detour from that and not her acting on that build up is going to take some time to get used to if it's the case. And I'm not sure yet it'd be commercially rewarding of a detour in the long-term, but I hope she leaves me gagged. Edited January 27 by Communion 4 1
R.E.M. Posted January 27 Posted January 27 at least we still have Solana to give us our pop/R&B smashas 2

Gerardo Posted January 27 Posted January 27 (edited) Yall are doing too much, this will be a NTLTC-Sweetener experience the only other dance/house songs will be the ones close to Y,A? on the tracklist, I’m sure the first 6-7 tracks will be more pop/r&b/electronic/doo-***, kinda like Quit and Adore Edited January 27 by Gerardo

Devin Posted January 27 Posted January 27 i rather her stick to having a cohesive album even if idc for the genre direction.
Gerardo Posted January 27 Posted January 27 We need songs like these, songs that stay in the hearts of people 1

Communion Posted January 27 Posted January 27 @Republic, quick, toss her in the studio to finish this for a cute little deluxe. This would actually sit nicely next to "yes, and?"

I’m hoping for DW type of cohesive, despite having many sounds that don’t really blend well, the track listing is smooth and doesn’t feel like a playlist, unlike with ME 2
TayDuaStan Posted January 27 Posted January 27 (edited) Wait, OzGo produced something on eternal sunshine? Oh, now i’m seated! His track record is incredible: Taylor’s So It Goes, Dua’s Crocodile Tears, Tove Lo’s 2 Die 4, Addison Rae’s i got it bad… I’m excited Edited January 27 by TayDuaStan
