Jamie Starr Posted March 8 Posted March 8 It's funny, but it's true There's never gonna be an ordinary thing As long as I'm with you 1
Tm4074 Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Her best album. No skips. It takes all the best parts of her previous albums but still sounds fresh for her. 2
Kristen Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Somethin' about him is made for somebody like me Baby, come over, come over And god knows I'm trying, but there's just no use in denying The Boy Is Mine I really and truly *cannot* get enough of this—her best album to date, without question. Not a single skip! The holy trinity of "supernatural," "the boy is mine," and "we can't be friends (wait for your love)"! So proud of Ariana for not only coming through, but doing it *this* hard. 2
Dr. Alexander Posted March 8 Posted March 8 This should’ve been a visual album too. The “we can’t be friends” video is so well done that I need an entire music film for this album
The Next Day Posted March 8 Posted March 8 (edited) The 2nd single is definetly a better representation of the album, but I'm convinced yes, and? is necessary for the narrative of the album and her overall image. So far I see 4 narratives: a doomed relationship (intro to DWBUA), overcoming anxiety navigating outside of the old relationship (Saturn to supernatural), overcoming public shaming (true story to yes, and?) and finally healing. Yes, and? is the end of one narrative and is the first step for Ariana to truly heal. And while it's sonically out of place, it was the best way to come back. Not only did she make perfectly clear that she won't cater to people who don't like her, she created a kind of safe bubble for this album to be vulnerable: "This is MY story and if you want to hear it, I'll show you everything I can, and if not, just look away." Imagine WCBF as the first single, the public would've lashed her for trying to get sympathy and whatnot. It's sick and twisted, Ariana played them accordingly. I see this album aging well. For me it combines her strong pop sound of Sweetener with the vulnerable lyrics of tu,n. I definetly understand her saying this is her first concept album. It's similiar to those albums I mentioned that were designed with a certain statement in mind. But eternal sunshine feels more thought-out in a way that it's just not the result of a certain period of time in her life that's compressed into an album form, but something that is intentionally designed to be a piece of art. I think Sweetener/tu,n established her as pop star with longevity, but for me this one will be the beginning of her being taken seriously as an artist. Edited March 8 by The Next Day 2 2

Bencharmer Posted March 8 Posted March 8 I wouldn't mind a remix of Supernatural with Troye he could sounds good on the second verse and on the final chorus.
