I’ve waited her whole career for this since I first stanned Yours Truly as a teenager. idc I’m emotional about it Today we won 1

This is FAR more consistent than Sweetener, Positions and TUN. Might be my favourite album from her.
LustSpell Posted March 8 Posted March 8 If her acclaim stays high, I feel as if she's locked for AOTY + Pop Vocal noms next year even in this chaotic ass year of releases. 2
pinkbowvintage Posted March 8 Posted March 8 she'll 100% get Best Pop Vocal nom for this and has a good shot at winning imo though we gotta see what else comes out this year what a lush, gorgeous album! so soft and sweet and addictive. can't wait to play this all spring and summer under the sun. I know it'll sound 10x better on the beach 1

I mean, where are the adlibs here? Vocal production is super flat and last choruses lack something that don’t manifest except some tracks like Supernatural and yes, and? She was blessed with a voice that is not showcasing here as it should. And yes, she sounds amazing anyways because of that talent she has, but… Melodies are great and lyrics seem well written (I’ll pay close attention later). However, I was expecting an album full of bombastic pop, even more when you look at who produced this. It’s not very far from Positions vibe but all decorated with synths (trap beats are still there in some tracks and R&B melodies are predominant). I will need time, but yes, and? remains my favourite here by far and the route she should’ve followed for once. My exact thoughts. It’s like… Ariana do you want to do pop or not girl???? I can see why yes,and is the lead. I mean it’s the only energetic true pop song on the album… It almost feels like she needs to release a 2-part body of work… one with the punchy pop radio friendly songs… and one with the laid back toned down vocals and production. This, to me, is good… but the two chosen singles stick out the most… they feel like the most “thought out” records, in terms of marketing and republic wanting an ROI on this album. The rest, to me, sound like laid back background music to play when going on a drive. I still think this will do really well. 1

Sadie Saxton Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Okay finished my listen. It’s solid. The first few tracks were reminiscent of a better version of My Everything to me (presumably her tracks for her separation from Dalton), then the Saturn interlude hits and the album has a solid run up until Imperfect For You. Ordinary Things is a cute closer and it’s cute having her Nonna’s voicemails being on various albums. It’s easily her most cohesive project. I’d probably place it about 3rd overall for me. My two favorites are Dangerous Woman and Thank U Next. The only thing I think this album suffers from (like she said in her Zach Sang interview) is it answer a lot but also says little - whereas I think her albums TUN and Sweetener bolstered a lot of their draw from being highly personal projects. This album is less personal but also gives some insight. I do appreciate the sonical approach for this album, and I’m hopeful for what she has coming next.
wren Posted March 8 Posted March 8 top 3 (after 1st listen) supernatural the boy is mine we can't be friends
