I have a love/indifferent relationship to Positions. It has a loungy vibe i love getting into. The album works great as a whole but i don't tend to listen to it every often.

not that same pulse insider saying this album lacks personality and “its just there”… mess but again imma trust my own ears. not gonna feed into leaks / insider opinions.

LESS THAN 2 DAYS AH

on the other hand republic executives said the album is very ariana and an elevated version of what she’s done before. i think the album is just a complete switch up from the sound she was heading towards with her last three albums (which is what A LOT of people asked for) and that might’ve thrown him off

And for the album, not gonna do a big review, but i guess i felt her completely disconnected from it? The evolution of the last 3, 4 albums is evident, even the ones that don't appreciate R&B Ari are aware of it. She had a pretty clear sound on every album, her goal, musically, was pretty clear on all of them. This one? i don't get it. Maybe once i hear the full thing again i may, but to be honest i doubt it. It just all sounds pretty been there done that, or worse, that others have already done, and better. The same opinion applies to Max. There are plenty of songs by him that i feel "heard it before", but that is the first time with a full album.

I guess i would highlight "The boy is mine" (that is, for sure, the song she mentioned as being inspired by "Fantasy") and "Don't wanna break up again".

But just to be a bit of a jerk, and tease u all a bit: I enjoy Fantasy more than anything on this album =p

No tea no shade but I can already tell the R&Biana stans are gonna be so annoying about this album if it does turn out to be mostly pop :deadbanana2:

not them praising don't wanna break up again when not a single fan who attended the listening session mentioned it :deadbanana4: to me it's obvious this person is far from Ariana's music so I'm still perched. True story is coming :WAP:

From the reviews i don't expect poppy boppy pop either.

Everytime/Goodnight N Go/Thinkin' Bout You/Ghostlin feels more of the "pop" this album is infused with.

Based on True Story alone this is gonna be album of the century idc

I don't think so. Judging by the reactions and reviews of fans/people who've heard the album so far, this won't be My Everything/Dangerous Woman-like pop. I do trust the Popjustice user who said this:

I actually think a Sweetener comparison is fair. Mainly due to a lot of it being fairly mellow, along the lines of the back half of that album.

Lyrically, it reminds me of aspects of Thank U, Next and Sweetener. It’s personal, but like she described in the Zach Sang interview, not every song is a clear in-your-face rebuttal to the stories about her personal life. Production-wise, it’s varied, but settles in a space that is most comparable to the back half of Sweetener and even hints of Positions, but it’s not nearly as R&B. The more uptempo moments don’t fit nicely with any of her previous albums, which is fun (but I think that’s clear from yes, and? alone). It’s a varied pop affair, but the songs sit alongside each other nicely.

Sweetener/TUN's poppy tracks are very loved by her core fanbase. I feel like both Popiana/R&Biana stans will be satisfied, unless the latter group expected something heavily R&B inspired.

I wonder how many people got FIRED over the last two years because I'm really shook at how she managed to keep it LOCKED UP :deadbanana4:

Spoiler

Was it one of yall here who mentioned that Tommy being absent from this album is allegedly due to them having a falling out because he could be involved in her songs leaking? It sounds like Ariolas fanfictions but idk

We love her pop hits like OLT, NTLTC, Breathin, it's songs like Problem and Yes, And that most of us don't appreciate

Sweetener is my favourite Ariana album so I’m in for a good time :WAP:

No, that just means Tommy's entire Dropbox was compromised while Max had a more sophisticated his way of storing his music. We also got like 20+ Pharrell leaks.

Also Max's was the only one where NEW post-Positions material leaked.

It's clearly gonna be her most pop album since Dangerous Woman and at least for me, that's a good thing. Most of her best moments since DQ have been poppier (No Tears Left To Cry, God Is A Woman, Breathe, bad idea, LOVE language, damn, even positions the song is on the poppier side of RnB)
