vamprizd Posted March 3 Posted March 3 true story and boy is mine are coming to be the kill bill and snooze out of the album 6
State of Grace. Posted March 3 Posted March 3 Kinda surprised that many fans mentioned imperfect for you as one of their faves. I didn't really care for that title nnn I cannnnnt wait to hear the title track, we can't be friends, and the boy is mine
State of Grace. Posted March 3 Posted March 3 (edited) Came across this tea from someone on PJ who listened to the album. Don't open if you don't want any ~spoilers~ Spoiler I actually think a Sweetener comparison is fair. Mainly due to a lot of it being fairly mellow, along the lines of the back half of that album. Lyrically, it reminds me of aspects of Thank U, Next and Sweetener. It’s personal, but like she described in the Zach Sang interview, not every song is a clear in-your-face rebuttal to the stories about her personal life. Production-wise, it’s varied, but settles in a space that is most comparable to the back half of Sweetener and even hints of Positions, but it’s not nearly as R&B. The more uptempo moments don’t fit nicely with any of her previous albums, which is fun (but I think that’s clear from yes, and? alone). It’s a varied pop affair, but the songs sit alongside each other nicely. The Boy Is Mine is all about the lyrics - no sample. Edited March 3 by State of Grace. 6 1

My20sBlues Posted March 3 Posted March 3 Nobody mentions don't wanna break up again, I don't want to have a skip so early in the album
Dr. Alexander Posted March 3 Posted March 3 There is zero mention about this album being 90s-influenced by the ones who went to the listening session. Yet, Zach Sang has called it nostalgic and we do know that The Boy is Mine is a carbon copy of the late-90s inspired “Fantasize”. So is that the element that they aren’t allowed to talk about?

I don't think the fans are allowed to say much tbh, they're basically just stating favorite tracks.

So it could be anything that reminds something """"""old"""""" or that is over now. Ariana is well known to takes elements from doo woo, soul, old musicals.... Maybe this is what he meant, while Yes and? and The Boy Is Mine do have a 90's influence still Edited March 3 by Bencharmer 2
nasa Posted March 3 Posted March 3 randomly perched for we can't be friends it's gonna be a mass bop I fear

R.E.M. Posted March 3 Posted March 3 my reference point for what to expect for the album is The Weeknd's 'Dawn FM' album which lives in a dance/R&B space and is produced by Max. There is a late 90s/early 2000s influence as well with some of the songs (ironically Ariana was supposed to feature on this song):
Starkboy Posted March 3 Posted March 3 idk why but I'd love those 30 secs snippets we used to get for this. edit: nevermind that's like half the songs. 1

DangerousNicky Posted March 3 Posted March 3 the ONE thing that I need to know is if "we can't be friends" is the obvious single choice cause I'll be pissed if there's a stronger track in there that loses the full potential to boost the album. she could always make it a single later or course but if the era needs a big push it should be with this second single. kinda surprised she didn't choose the boy is mine since it seems to be a gag for everyone who got to listen AND the name alone would bring attention to it even if she gets dragged to hell and back ndjdjdjd. so perched 3
TOKYO. Posted March 3 Posted March 3 She is smart for going the taylor route with dropping the album without any teasers. People will at least tune in to check it for the suprise factor. Even tho as a fan I hate it, marketing wise its the newest way to release I suppose 3
