Houdini about to drop out of Spotify US. What's next for Dua Lipa?

The song always gave Dawn FM vibes, which flopped in the US with the GP. So expected I guess.

She should take a break and come back. Maybe she is over exposed.

I think y’all are too quick to call these new pop girls flops whenever they release a song that isn’t an instant smash or doesn’t serve longevity. Houdini underperformed, but that doesn’t mean Dua is over in the US.

This. When HTE wasn’t an instant smash, they said Billie was over. The era ended up over 2x Platinum in the U.S. and is still growing.

Moral of the story: hits don’t need to be instant. Houdini will hit Platinum in the U.S. next month and just keep growing from there.

True but Katy Perry accumulated so much classics with only 2 eras that’s why she can pull 10M streams per day without a hit.

Dua’s career trajectory is still miles ahead of Katy’s.

Pop girlies who rely on being hot to sell are doomed to decline as they age, unfortunately. See: Katy Perry.

But at least Katy Perry established herself as a celebrity and an artist. I still have no clue who Dua Lipa is other than an ex-model that makes some bops. She's so faceless.

Dua and Katy are not the same. Dua is way more acclaimed than Katy 2 albums in. She has three Grammys, FN is more acclaimed than any Katy album and Dua will never have a cringe Witness phase like Katy did. They’re not comparable at all.

And if she was truly faceless she wouldn’t be asked to headline Coachella, present at the Golden Globes, interview Apple’s CEO, etc. She does have an identity, you just choose to not invest time in it to find out what it is.

Y’all acting as if she released an album and all the singles flopped. Houdini is not even a flop, it underperformed yes, but given it was released right before holidays I think it did a good job overall. She’ll be fine, y’all keep trying to find reasons to call Dua a faceless popstar.

But I was told it would smash in January, what went wrong?

It can still bounce back.

The next single. Her albums don’t disappoint 🤷‍♀️

The trolling about Houdini is a bit too much. Is it a huge hit like the FN singles ? No, it's a moderate hit. Not every song is going to smash and there's nothing wrong with that.

I'll give you more acclaimed, but talent-wise they're the same. Neither can dance, sing, or act all that well, which means they're doomed to age out of the industry more than people like Beyonce and Gaga.
