Raptus Posted January 6 Posted January 6 2 pop girls that don't have any particular musical style/identity and hop from one persona to another every era. Which has less artistic integrity? 1
Gelato Posted January 6 Posted January 6 I feel like when Miley goes all in on a particular style or genre, it's genuinely what she's interested in and what's inspired her at that time. With Halsey I find all the identities she's had a bit phoney. 1

Pendulum Posted January 6 Posted January 6 What do you mean Halsey has no artistic identity when her debut and persona had tumblr in chokehold back in 2015? I don't think Miley has ever served сunt like that. 2 1 1
visions Posted January 6 Posted January 6 (edited) They’re both versatile, take risks, and attempt different genres, which is much more than I can say for a lot of other “artists”. I am more convinced by Miley’s identity in her music, I think her eras are more refined and thought out, even if she does switch it up a lot. Edit: I voted for the wrong person in the poll Edited January 6 by visions
pavi Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Hmm, just because they switch it up doesn't mean they don't have artistic integrity imo. It's a shame Miley trashes her previous work so often, tho

Halsey still has a long way to go before getting there. 1 1
glitch Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Why does the title say identity and the OP says integrity? Those are two different things. In terms of identity I'd say Halsey definitely has a distinctive sound that makes her songs hers. Miley switches between genres a lot and I don't think I could pull up a song and say "this encapsulates who Miley Cyrus is as an artist".
Kayseri Mantisi Posted January 6 Posted January 6 This thread is so disrespectful against Milegend..... Halsey came up as a Lorde & Lana Del Rey copy. And all the iconic "tumblr" moments y'all talked about, Bangerz did better. 4
Big Bad Wolf Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Bffr it's Miley She had successful transitions in all of her eras including Can't Be Tamed, Bangerz, Dead Petz, even younger Younger Now and Plastic Heartz and ESV feels like a natural progression too. Halsey has no artistic identity besides those bannanis and avocadis vocals she does. 2
Zefierce Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Miley Her rockstar shtick feels like cosplay and it gives me secondhand-embarrassment. 1 2

honestopinion Posted January 6 Posted January 6 ATRL has a weird obsession with comparing THE legend Miley Cyrus with some khias, this thread is a joke and can't be taken seriously 1

This is confusing because even during her Hannah Montana days, her music was very pop rock leaning. Hell, she even had a song called Rock Star. 1
Letemtalk Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Hasley started as a One Direction stan on Youtube, making Taylor Swift parodies, then signed a record deal in 2014 and became an alternative girl that once said this in an interview after touring as support to Imagine Dragons. Quote Okay, I just did the Imagine Dragons tour for two months. I was playing arenas in the United States and I was playing to a very sterile audience. I was playing to an audience who knows who Imagine Dragons are because they have radio hits. I wasn't playing to a group of people that are into their own discovery of music, or into discovering music for themselves or curating their own taste. Obviously they have a very dedicated fanbase and there are a lot of people that are die hard for them and discovered them on their own. When you get to an arena standpoint a lot of those people are there because they are casual fans. I walk out, I've got short blue hair and I'm playing to conservative America like, 'is she gay? I don't get it. She's singing about guys but she looks like a lesbian'. I've got this song that's about how this new generation's accepting of diversity, accepting of different walks of life etcetera. No one ******* understands it. Then she did "Closer" with the chainsmokers. More recently she did that weird "they are forcing me to do viral tiktoks" thing. Miley seems a bit confused on what direction she wants to go at times, but overall she seems to be more consistent than Halsey. 1
The Man Who Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Doesn’t Miley just reinvent herself like Madonna does? So why is it used as something to praise Madonna for, but drag Miley for? - you can tell that Madonna has been a huge inspiration on Miley and she’s shown time again that she’s ultra-talented and highly capable of succeeding whilst doing different genres. Nothing but respect for Milegend. I don’t know enough about Halsey or her music to give a fair comment.

That Imagine Dragons quote made me cringe so bad! They’ve been my favourite band since 2010, which was a good few years before they had any breakout hits with the GP. Like I said previously, I don’t know much about her or her music, but that quote makes her seem so pretentious. I’m so glad now that she wasn’t the opening act for my show in November. I am also dying at Imagine Dragons becoming one of the most vocal LGBT+ allies out there and Halsey being worried their fanbase wouldn’t like her because she was a female with short blue hair.
