Talento Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Despite being undoubtedly her biggest album, the music videos were so cheap/low budget/ugly, why? It's definitely the Beyoncé album with the worst MVs. 2 3
lonnie Posted January 6 Posted January 6 She loved a leotard and a black and white aesthetic with this era

Beyonceist Posted January 6 Posted January 6 The aesthetics of the era were geared towards simplicity, that does not mean low budget. 4

Gelato Posted January 6 Posted January 6 I think simple green screen videos were just the trend back then. It's nothing to do with budget because IASF was huge so the label would've been willing to invest in bigger productions if she wanted. Another example is Cheryl debuting with Fight For This Love around the same time. The label gave her a massive push with no expense spared but the video is still quite simple. There are probably lots more examples but ones like Single Ladies and FFTL are the first that come to mind for me. They're proof that you don't have to throw mountains of cash at a video for it to become iconic.
Katamari Posted January 6 Posted January 6 The budget was spent from the tour and bdays videos Touring helped her get the coins together for Sweet Dreams cgi at least
Kimi Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Single Ladies is incredible, Diva and Ego are also very good. Other 3 kinda mid but not bad, you are reaching. 2
SoldierofLove Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Sasha was a new artist at the time. What budget did you expect? 8

Triton Posted January 6 Posted January 6 She wanted something iconic for that era and she got it. I wish it didn’t leak into the Sweet Dreams video though, even though it did have a budget and huge cgi, she toned it down to match the other videos. That deserved to be a psychedelic color explosion, plus with all the Thierry Mugler costumes available to her… ugh. If only it was anything like the tour interlude video. Ego can burn in hell, Diva was good especially the costumes, Halo very pretty and light, If I Were A Boy cinematic, SL iconic, BHG meh, it can burn, Video Phone…. Great gowns, beautiful gowns, and Why Don’t You Love Me…. Perfect. Chefs kiss.
Rebecca Posted January 6 Posted January 6 The videos were gorgeous. When you have as much talent as Beyoncé you don’t need a big budget and gimmicks. 2
AvadaKedavra Posted January 6 Posted January 6 She wanted more than 2-3 videos, so to film all of those she needed to to divide the budget properly
Tamera Posted January 6 Posted January 6 SL video > your faves Proof you don't need bells and whistles all the time
naval23 Posted January 6 Posted January 6 That gold plated Armour suit in Sweet Dreams wasn't low budget
SuperCiC1 Posted January 6 Posted January 6 She wanted the whole era to have black and white visuals because she was told in a meeting that her fans didn't like it and she wanted to prove them wrong. 1

Right, she was told she's not gonna sell, so she was being petty as usual and ended up smashing left and right 2
