A quarter of the population of Nevada is Latino. Yet the biggest audience of Burning Man is non Hispanic whites. These stats mean nothing. But with Shakira headlining more Latinos would be inclined to go, and the highest concentration is in Southern California where Coachella takes place not to mention its only an hour from Mexico. Shakira is a mf legend to us and it would definitely attract a different demographic.
Meev Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Saying no to Shakira? I wonder what the execs of Coachella are thinking 1
HardBambi Posted January 5 Posted January 5 I don’t blame them because as far as I know she always fully lip-syncs and Coachella is not about that 3
Ivan_brit Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Shakira is a better option than all 3 headliners I mean it could had been her comeback show, she still slays 2 2
AvadaKedavra Posted January 5 Posted January 5 (edited) As a latino im highly dissapointed. It feels racist to not invite our biggest latina all time. Is like saying no to Beyonce,Rihanna, Madonna,Gaga,Taylor who are important for black-white people Imagine missing out on Shakira At the same time. Im glad we have a latina headlining for the first time. Lanita del rey. Ella hara un gran show. Ella no pidio ser latina. Solo tuvo suerte. Ella es de los reyes de la lana y ovejo Edited January 5 by AvadaKedavra 1 1

They already had Bad Bunny who is hugely popular amongst American Latinos. In terms of popularity Bad Bunny is bigger than Shakira in the US. Lastly, Coachella is still known as a “white” festival. A lot of the things they’re doing is not altruistic. Just things to make them seem more open when they really aren’t.
GeeDuval Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Aren’t the headliners usually young, only ones around her age I remember headlining are blink 182? Everybody else been in their late 20s early 30s no? I mean makes sense though on the executive’s decision if they declined due to sales or demand. have an artist headline and you don’t have anything to go by? No album or tour ticket sales to go by? Makes sense to me, her team is kinda dumb knowing everything is $$$ there was a big Latino representation last year yes, but bad bunny had the numbers to back it up and headline

Taste of Honey Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Shakira has and will likely continue playing stages far larger than this. She is fine. 2 5
Tropez Posted January 5 Posted January 5 3 minutes ago, ohwow said: the article u posted was from 2017 vs the one from 2022 i posted Have they stopped teaching in schools? The point of the article was Coachella has been called out for being overwhelmingly white. So they tried to make changes by having a more inclusive line up of artists that are not just white. This is where we are today. Coachella has had Latino artists. Most notably Bad Bunny, who is easily the most popular Latin artist in the US. Lastly, back to the point. Just because an area has a set demographic. Doesn’t mean events that take place there will be filled with those people. If they want to attract more Latinos they’ll use reggaeton artists.
mig123 Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Well coachella is not a cultural impact so It doesn’t matter
Eóghan Posted January 5 Posted January 5 maybe they have a rule against playback? I know Shakira relies a lot on it because she moves a lot 1
