TrueBlood Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Ngl, the song is a massive bop BUT I expected a little bit more after all this time. It's basically a good song mainly because with Vogue in mind it's hardly difficult to not deliver at least a nice bop.
Shimenawa Posted January 12 Posted January 12 The song is really bad It is very mid and goes nowhere. Forgettable, tired house music and the lyrics are poorly written 1
#Beautiful Posted January 12 Posted January 12 hate the way she thinks shes smart asking us to say it with our whole chest and saying why we care whose dick shes riding. we been saying with our whole chest that we heard the wife with the brand new child so im really not sure what she thinks shes doing here 💀 song is fine, beat is great and i hope its an indication of the album sound

I also really don't love the baby voice, she dragged it during Sweetener saying her label made her do it during ME/DW and then went back to it because of Wicked So basically tasteful fans demand a version with another instrumental breakdown instead of the bridge and bigger vocals on the chorus 1 1
MaxMartin Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Does anyone hear a vocal Melodyne glitch at 2:03 minute? when she says "Situation"?
Dolce Vita Posted January 12 Posted January 12 this song with sweetener era vocals would’ve been 10/10

Ramooon Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Very weak, disappointing. It'll be a hit for her for sure, cuz she's young and IT girl, but this adds nothing to her discography and will be forgotten very quickly 1 2

Bicassie Posted January 12 Posted January 12 it’s definitely sounding like a grower but this is very fresh 1
BGKC Posted January 12 Posted January 12 (edited) The production is very reminiscent of an 80s/90s arcade game with some “Vogue” elements tied in. It’s kind of a vibe. The lyrical content overall is campy and playful, but the vocals low key sounds like AI or something. Especially during the bridge. Edited January 12 by BGKC 1

Wish this had a stronger chorus. The chorus is just her reading some words... where tf is the melody?

omrimayo Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Chorus Is so bad!!! Not catchy at all. Can’t understand one word she’s singing, it’s blend and I’m shocked how bad it is. It will do numbers of course with this support on playlists and her name only but this is Focus level bad. Shocked, where is NTLTC quality!!!
EnterTheAttic Posted January 12 Posted January 12 It's so ... forgettable. Mid. Uneventful. Is this supposed to be a bop? Is she unable to put out a good song? 3
lustforyou Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Love the production, enjoy the stylistic choices taken with her vocals, am intrigued by the idea of the theme of the song from her, can’t make out a word she says, the lyrics are very weak All that being said, it’s such an Ariana Grande song. From the title, to every single one of the lyrics, you can just tell it’s *her*. And so it kinda makes me cool with the weak lyrics. Granted, someone with a weaker or less pleasant sounding voice could never pull off this song, but somehow she makes me like it. Same with NTLTC, I thought the lyrics were weak but I almost like it better than if it had more technically “better” lyrics that were workshopped through a ton of writers. Final thought: I saw someone elsewhere comment upon how it’s hypocritical that Ari’s defining song of “thank u, next” has her literally listing out her ex lovers, but here she’s asking the public why they care whose dick she rides. They also remarked that it’s ironic that that song was about learning to love herself/not need a man, and this song rebukes all that, just like “buwygib” originally rebuked “tu,n” on its own album, but people tried to say that was satire That whole narrative is why I find Ariana so fascinating to watch experience life. (I don’t mean that in a positive way, and I wish for her sake she had less traumas, but nevertheless she’s had them). She’s such a tragic figure: gorgeous, wealthy child star with an insane voice and seemingly supportive parents; she should’ve had it all. And yet she can never seem to find inner peace/stability. She is constantly changing (the men she dates, her style, the way she speaks, her passions) while never actually growing or evolving This is, of course, from someone who literally knows nothing about her in real life lol, but theorizing the deeper meaning behind the art is half the “fun” 2
MonsterJohn Posted January 12 Posted January 12 It sounds better with headphone ngl, still I was hoping for better melody The intro is hella long
elvenOCEAN Posted January 12 Posted January 12 I hate to say this, but the vocals are indeed a bit of an issue for me too. I've been waiting on her to deliver really solid, powerful vocals we all know she's capable of delivering for some time now, and she seemed to be on the right path with releases such as "off the table" and "save your tears (remix)." This was the perfect opportunity. Still, the instrumental is great and I'll be streaming. I just can't escape thinking it could've/should've been grander.
