People still saying 2018-2019 debuts are 4th gen :deadbanana4:

They are 3.5 gen that last into 4th gen. Same with Apink and AOA not being considered 3rd gen but 2.5 gen that lasted will into 3rd gen.

3rd gen was not some 4 year generation :rip:

AOA is 3rd gen. They’re not part of the 2.5 gen girlies.

The gens change based on when the major companies launch their flagship groups. G-IDLE is CUBE’s flagship 4th Gen group just like BabyMonster is YG’s.

It basically lets you know if your fave is a priority for their company or not. f(x) and Miss A are perfect examples - they only got to really be active when SNSD/WG were away. A .5 group is basically filler, no matter how good they are.

This would make generations a completely useless thing to even talk about or consider. So if major companies launch groups every 2 years then generations are only 2 years?

AOA debuted in 2012 just like EXO and there is a reason their peak was around the start of 3rd gen but they didn't really have continued success far into 3rd gen (2014+). They were more 2.5 gen. 2nd gen groups were still going very strong both in Korea, Japan, and WW. AOA had already came and peaked by the time BP even debuted like :rip:

You can't sit here and try and say 3rd gen started in 2012 while SNSD, Kara, WG, Bigbang, 2NE1, SISTAR, Secret, T-ara, etc. were all utterly smashing. There was no shift in generation. Meanwhile in 2013 beyond you could start to see the once dominating groups start to fall off in digital sales and what not compared to the past. A major group debut is not an automatic generation change. That just sounds nonsensical.

2nd gen start: Bigbang, SNSD, Kara, Wonder Girls all debuted in 2006-2007

3rd gen start: BTS, RV, MMM, and TWICE all debuted in 2013-2015

4th gen start: aespa, IVE, STAYC, LSRFM, NJ, debuted in 2020-2022

Logically:

2nd Gen: 2006-2012 [~7 years]

- 2.5 Gen: 2010-2012 debuts

3rd Gen: 2013-2019 [~7 years]

- 3.5 Gen: 2018-2019 debuts

4th Gen: 2020-current

Everyone wants to media play how they started the gen5, but New Jeans impact is way too big to say it happened after them. They literally had the gays made around their concept their debut year.
