What if Taylor is a man?

What levels of success would she have achieved by now?

Bigger than The Beatles?

Morgan Wallen at best.

Her success comes from being a privileged white woman

We wouldn't have great music

She would have been raised very differently. As others pointed out, maybe her musical talents wouldn't be her top priorities, as the social construct around her would have forced or pressured her to take another career path, like, for example, the one that her father took.

Everything went perfect for her. She is as big as she can get.

I always found Taylor's logic on this a bit off. If we solely focus on her career (and exclude the known social/interpersonal disadvantages women face); Taylor's point of difference from the start was that she was a young woman in a male-dominated country genre. If she was a man she probably would've never left country and/or become a pop star.

But equally, this discussion is so damn pointless. Look to amplify the women in your own life who you can see are facing oppression and disadvantage. The white female billionaire doesn't need it.

Well, the leaked email shows money was no object for her parents in buying her success. As a man she would be even more privileged so potentially she would be a bit more successful.

Maybe a more interesting question is what if she was a person of colour from a low-income household. Holding her talent endowment constant, would she have made it? Discuss!

He would be cancelled immediately for dating famous women and making songs about them. To come think of it, i think JT is the male Taylor :gaycat7:

So yeah, terrible idea. Taylor is benefitting alot from current wave of feminism and privileged white women. If she had debuted in early 2000's she would've bombed.

Her whole thing is being relatable to women and writing from her experiences that connect to them. I’m in the minority but I don’t think Taylor would have been as successful as a man. When we see the male archetypes of a popstar, especially from Taylor’s debut times, they had to dance, be attractive, incorporate R&B, etc none of these are strong Taylor abilities (she is attractive as a woman, but I don’t think her looks would translate as well as a man). I also think if she were to pursuit a music career she wouldn’t have left country music and would have been a male Miranda Lambert type of acclaimed artist at her time. At best a Morgan or Kenny type of success tale, but she would have to play even safer to hook the male country audience that hates certain topics that female pop Taylor has approached in her music

On the other hand I think she would have had a better shot in the film industry, because people wouldn’t be so fixed on her brand and name as a musician to a point they couldn’t dissociate it from a character or a movie directed by her 🫣
