Infernal Paradise Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Of course it's the multi-Razzie winners stans who either don't find her transition impressive enough, that she plays herself in every role, or that she gets them solely based on name recognition and not merit. OT: She has the critical acclaim, peers and industry recognition, audiences acceptance, and is a bankable movie star. She literally checks every box of what constitutes a successful film actor. When the ONLY actor to win both the American and British Triple Crown of Acting praises your singular talent and "would love" to do a film together, you know you've made it Quote When W magazine suggested that one day the two might-co-star in a movie together, Mirren liked the idea. "Yeah, wouldn’t that be wonderful? I’d love that. That would be brilliant," she said. https://www.goodmorningamerica.com/culture/story/dame-helen-mirren-love-star-movie-lady-gaga-84214495 2 1
TipToe Posted January 2 Posted January 2 I personally don't care about cinemá and it feels like she had put her music career on hold to focus on the acting area and I question if she isn't wasting her time since she is more memorable producing gems like Swallow and Swine imo. She don't need to stop pursuing that Oscar but hey your gheys need musique. 1
BoDaToe Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Of course she’s been successful in the film industry. No question. I think the question is will she have sustainability in the film industry. That said I can’t see her doing anything but these campy tailor made roles. That’s just her niche and I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing to play into as a performer. I don’t think she could pull off a role of a “natural” role. I wouldn’t believe her as an average person. Like she couldn’t have done Florence Pughs role in A Good Person despite her also composing original music for the film. Because she is a larger than life persona she kind of has to play larger than life roles. If she does continue to do film I’d like to see her do something fantasy/sci fi or art house horror or even do a Tarantino film. I think she killed her role in AHS and would like something more like that. Also can’t see her pulling off a rom com. Honestly I think it would be cool for her to do solid 5 films and be done with acting. But I can see her wanting to transition away from being a full time musician as she ages out of the “MPG” era of her career. I can see her being someone like Cher in her later years.

She was literally playing the opposite kind of popstar that she is in real life with a natural stripped down look and she was literally playing a waitress that wanted to become a singer, if anything for that role specifically she was praised for pulling a 'natural' role and performance.

Well, she is and Oscar nominated actress, SAG and BAFTA nominated actress + Golden Globe/Critics Choice/National Board of Review awards winner actress + Palm spring International film ICON award for acting + other dozens of nominations and awards as AN actress So, what's not clicking?

Gladiator Posted January 3 Posted January 3 (edited) Successful, which is annoying as a selfish fan only interested in her music. I’m tired of her acting. I have no interest in seeing her movies. I want new music. Edited January 3 by Gladiator
Psyduck Posted January 3 Posted January 3 (edited) ASIB was a huuuuuuuge coup for her, supercharged her career and made her an A+ global star again. It was the craziest thing that could've happened to her career. Getting a Best Actress nomination included. But it could've easily been a fluke. Whitney's acting career never amounted to much after The Bodyguard. Ditto with Cher after Moonstruck. They never became legit Hollywood leading ladies. But Gaga is heading in that direction. She's snatching roles that typically would've gone to your high profile A list actress like Margot Robbie or Emma Stone. She was the lead in a big ensemble Ridley Scott movie. She's co-starring opposite Joaquin Phoenix in a role that Margot just played a few years ago, and that you just KNOW every actress wanted (huge first film, Joaquin won an Oscar which means whoever plays Harley will have Oscar buzz by default). Remember that zoom chat with actresses when Gaga made the prop juice joke? Remember how the actresses were visibly contemptful towards her? Like they could't even bother to pretend to laugh along? If Gaga was some no-name lucky to be nominated girl they would've just laughed along. But that little interaction showed how they actually feel. They HATE her. Because she has smuggled her way into her field. And in Hollywood, you only hate someone who is a threat. Gaga is a threat. They all know it. Directors love her, male actors love her. And unlike them she doesn't have to be beautiful to get roles. And most importantly the public wants to see her. Emma Stone couldn't get people to see a film just because of her if her life depended on it. So it's unquestionably successful up to this point. If Joker is good and does well and then she gets one more hit movie after that I'd say it's a wrap and she can ditch her music career for good like she clearly wants to. Edited January 3 by Psyduck 2
