GlamSlam Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 Not sure if I would call it successful considering her accent in HOG was mocked by critics. A good actress would master ANY accent without any issue. Look at Meryl Streep, she was fabulous in Sophie's Choice, Out of Africa and A Cry In The Dark. I can't imagine LG doing those roles very well at all. 2 2
Enzo Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 Considering she was being praised as the only good thing to come out of HOG, I would say yes

That’s still a huge achievement for pop stars turned actresses… People acting like she only won for BOS and not nominated for BA… I don't understand how else to explain it omg are yall for real? The op stated her oscar WIN not the nom as an acting flex. Its not. 1 1

Havoc Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 I mean, she got nominated for Best Actress on her first film, got tons of acclaim, and is starring in an extremely anticipated film for her third... that's a success for ANY actress of any standard. I'm not even much of a fan but she mops the floor with all of peers when it comes to an acting career. 1

Plenty of actors and actresses aren't great at accent work. Meryl Streep is the exception, where most of her Oscar nominated roles required accents, but plenty of well regarded actresses never changed their accent for a role, or struggled to pull off certain accents. Gaga won a prestigious critics prize for HOG, and was nominated at most critic circles, so her accent didn't detract from her performance according to most critics. 1 1
Zefierce Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 Oscar Nominated Actress Lady Gaga I think its a success. 1

The American hacks who said that are the ones thinking the whole country (Italy) has a Sicilian accent like in the Godfather when we have different regions and different accents in here, not everybody has the same accent or speak English in the same way with the same accent (depending also on education), she was accurate in portray a rich educated woman from the North as several comparison videos proved. Regardless, the accent alone doesn't make either a good or bad performance. She got the recognitions by the awards bodies that matters for it. 4

House of Gucci was a unnecessary role. Lies. She wouldn't have been casted in the sequel of a billion dollar movie that got 11 Oscars nominations if HOG wouldn't have been another successful project for her. 2

Her having an Oscar just for BOS, doesnt change the fact that she is a SUCCESSFUL Academy Award-nominated actress. That’s what I’m saying, boo. Edited December 31, 2023 by Ethereaaal 1
Jewel Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 (edited) We know it was very successful, there's no point asking questions we know the answer to. She did what every popstar from Madonna to Britney dreams of doing. But can she maintain it? Cher's transition to film was very successful but extremely short lived. In 1988 she won the Oscar. By 1990 her film career was over. Similarly Whitney's film career lasted just 3 years. Edited December 31, 2023 by Jewel

Absolutely, I find Madonna great in very few movies, Desperately seeking Susan where she basically played herself and Evita which was simply flawless, but most of her other movies all I see is Madonna lol
Jewel Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 It's interesting to see what little noise Bradley Cooper's Maestro made. It flopped hard on Netflix, barely charted for a day or two https://flixpatrol.com/top10/netflix/ Makes you realize how much she powered A Star Is Born. 2

However! OGH quickly dismissed her talents as a one-trick pony. Now, forward to the present, and Lady Gaga has not only silenced critics but has emerged as a powerhouse in the film industry. With GUCCI, ASIB, an Oscar, and a Golden Globe under her belt, she has showcased her versatility and depth as an actress. The anticipation surrounding her upcoming role in JOKER: Folie à Deux only adds to the intrigue. While she has undoubtedly made significant strides, the question lingers: has Lady Gaga fully transitioned into a bankable actress, or does she still have much to prove to the GP? Are you seriously asking if Critics Choice, Golden Globe, National Board of Review winning, Academy award nominated actress Lady Gaga is successful? Log off and spend New Year’s Eve with family and friends.
prézli Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 Successful, however she didn't bring anything new to the table with ASIB. HOG on the other hand... she was gooood in it.
dumbsparce Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 One movie bianually is not a "transition to acting" lmao. She just has connections and name recognition that allow her to pick roles that were tailored specifically for her. 2 1 2
LOTF Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 She's been successful in that she has taken part in commercially successful movies to critical acclaim. But whether she is actually an actress with variety and range is yet to be seen. We've only seen her in roles that are akin to her Lady Gaga brand

We saw that already also with 'Nightmare Alley' that came out in the same period of 'House of Gucci', same budget and same age restriction and it grossed one quarter of what HOG did at the box office.
TrymeB Posted January 1 Posted January 1 I think the jury is still out on her acting abilities. AHS - Ok (passable) ASIB -Good (felt like she was playing herself) HoG - Awful To claim she is an accomplished actress based on this track record would be foolish. 1 1

Another is Adam Driver who has done nothing but flop: The Last Duel, 65, Ferrari. She carried HoG.
Ethereaaal Posted January 2 Posted January 2 This thread in a nutshell: Monsters substantiating arguments with facts such as awards, noms and audience/critics consensus, while OGHs uhm well… live in Oblivia where she’s a bad actress 1 2 1
