I don't think this applies to how much money she has in the same way that it applies to getting praise for her work. She's a people pleaser, always has been, and seeks out acceptance/praise. When she doesn't get the level of acclaim she's hoping for, she doesn't get an ego about it and say everyone else is wrong....she fully takes it on herself as "I clearly did something wrong here and I need to do it differently next time". Her taking her cues from those things has resulted in some great work (Her writing Speak Now alone after people doubting she was the brain behind her songwriting, 1989 after Red didn't win AOTY and she assumed it was because it wasn't cohesive enough), and some absolute misfires (ME!, which I can only assume was her attempt at brightening things up after thinking people might have thought her reputation-era vibe was too dark). I think she's really calmed down on this stuff since Lover, but seeking approval and acclaim is just part of who she is. 1
Buffy Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 (edited) I guess no one is an OG fan in here because everyone is overlooking Britney who is mentioned a few times in the letter. I think it may be the same Britney related to her unreleased song called Me & Britney. Your Face is also one of her best unreleased songs. Scott knew the value of it. What_A_Mess Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 OTHs , this is Nothing that we didn’t know about before. We know she grew up with privilege, so? What do you want us to do? Stop listening to her music and start listening to your faves awful music instead? lmao And Swifties, just ignore that troll. Nothing you say will convince them otherwise. OT: i kinda feel bad for Scott. Reminds me of my dad in some way. Talks to much and can be embarrassing but will do anything for his kids. I’m guessing that this email leaking in the court documents and how he seems to resent Andrea in it spearheaded their divorce. 1 1

Britney had the same privileges as Taylor and was sold as a white friendly Janet that was my only point

Do you think other discovered artists weren’t also mailing in their demo CDs to every record label they could find the address of? Are you just upset that Scott was able to personally hand it off to some people instead of stamping an envelope and relying on postal service? Taylor was just as discovered as any other artist Edit: he also did not rig her album sales, nowhere in the email does it indicate that. Because she didn’t want to be a famous singer? Did you not read what I said? I specifically said that Taylor is very talented and that people with her exact level of talent and drive don’t succeed to the same degree because they didn’t have wealthy parents to help them. I wouldn’t say Paris has the same level of songwriting expertise and musical talent as Taylor, which would probably explain why her parents’ money didn’t buy her a music career. But it did buy her a whole career nonetheless. 1

Peak Now Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 This has been out for 10+ years If y'all really think Scott "bought" Taylor a career, where is Paris Hilton's music career? She definitely has (had) more money so according to ATRL that should guarantee at least 3 AOTYs and 11 #1s. 1

wish Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 A huge chunk of megastars like Taylor were raised by very wealthy families who could afford to financially and emotionally support their child's wildest dreams. Throw in some industry connections and you got yourself a massive leg up on the competition. Nothing shocking here. But this is exactly why I will ALWAYS loudly celebrate artists like Rihanna, Nicki, Mariah, and Britney. Artists who literally started from poverty and built an empire despite all odds stacked against them. Their success will always be 1000x more impressive to me. 2 1

You called a 3k foot upscale colonial home a "farm" yet seemingly ignore that Britney's childhood home sold for $275k in 2021, essentially 1/4th of the value of Taylor's childhood home Let alone no one refers to Britney as having grown up poor because Jamie did not have a well-paying job; of course he had a job, and they would have lived an especially comfortably middle class life in rural Kentwood if he was a normal father (rural isn't synonymous for poor, though a welder and construction worker has many signifiers that make such jobs different than a bank executive). Britney's upbringing is described as rough, as growing up poor, and as unstable because her father was a violent alcoholic whose self-destructive behaviors meant he - with Lynne already being his 2nd marriage - increasingly found himself out of work and filing for bankruptcy, especially after Britney's birth. With Britney's mom (her only job being in child care) essentially deciding to push Britney into music as a second form of income for the family to make up for her spiraling husband. Both got into entertainment as children, but an interesting and possibly meaningful distinction is that Britney essentially became the breadwinner of her home the moment she landed things like the New Mickey Mouse Club, while Taylor's growing popularity in the Nashville circuit didn't supersede her banker father's dominion over their home. The differences in their family's finances (yes, much due to Jamie Spears' choices) largely meant that Taylor's family could help her pursue music as a way to achieve her dreams, while Britney seemingly was pushed to achieve her family's financial dreams. There are a lot of actually interesting racial, political, religious and cultural aspects in the reality of the Spears as a white middle class family constantly fighting slipping into poverty in what is a historically racist town, the way the privilege of their whiteness intersected at times with their growing poverty, and the way all these realities manifested in dysfunction (her own father himself a victim to a physically abusive father and left abandoned by a mother who killed herself after losing another child just days after giving birth). Of course having supportive parents with successful careers is nothing to hold against Taylor, but you're similarly acting in bad faith needlessly attacking Britney for things you seem not extremely informed on with regards to what her actual life and upbringing was.
