How is a parent supporting their child’s dreams gross? As a person of color I wish our people could fund the dreams of our youth. But I’m not about to hold that against a father with the privilege to do so for his daughter. And I’m definitely not gonna fault her for having the talent and the drive and the consistency that took her to even greater heights. Privilege is a starting advantage, not a guaranteed reach of the finish line.

I'm talking about the mentality of "I sold my 2 million mansion so I could move to Nashville and buy 30k copies of my daughter's album who can't sing, can't dance and can't act so I can kickstart her career" when thousands of other infinitely more talented kids can't follow their dreams because they don't have a wealth manager dad. Also, I find his greedy, callous attitude has been passed right down to his daughter who has only ever had wealth as a goal and uses a private jet to go to the store without a care in the world. But frankly, rich people will rich people. It's the broke success stans eating ramen living in their mothers basement celebrating that egregious excess because they don't realize the 1% would let them die without a second thought for some extra profit.

Okay so first I really need you to know that the post that said that wasn’t actually real and it’s not in the email lmao, like the entire thing is about him doing things for her career like blowing balloons and collecting rubber ducks

Okay but that changes nothing about the spirit of my post. It's not a meritocracy.

I only read halfway. He mentioned “Your Face.” Finally this song gets mentioned. Hope it gets re-recorded for Debut TV. This juicy email will give the song some promo!

Oh but it does! I totally get having a legitimate conversation about how her father’s relative wealth put her in a position of privilege and advantage over other kids who wanted to be stars, and even other kids who became stars, but that’s not what you’re trying to have here. Your comments like “so much about making it because of her amazing, unique, personal music” and how she “can't sing, can't dance and can't act” so she needs him to “kickstart her career” make it very transparent what your priority is here, and the fact that you didn’t bother to read the entire thing and just ran with the first negative comment you saw on the first page says a ton.

He seems insufferable. Did they pay her ex manager? They seem so stingy.

Nothing tbh. I just don't see how Rihanna's rise to fame is inspirational when she wasn't even involved in making her own music AND has no musical talents of any kind either.

Um, Rihanna can sing (though, not a vocalist) - she has a pleasant tone and she can dance (though, she's not Ciara/Janet). Let's not pretend like some of the girls y'all stan could do this on stage.

Furthermore, Rihanna has done vocals, background vocals, executive producing, songwriting, art direction and design, creative directing, etc. on her albums.

Not you talking about meritocracy when the only reason the girl in your avi has a career is because of her ******* brother...

Well Taylor (and especially not her father) aren’t the 1%. They’re not “rich,” and while I think the history of America that allowed caucasians to build and hoard wealth on the backs of the labor of minorities and underprivileged communities is shameful, I’m not about to sit her and wag my finger at a father choosing to divest his assets in support of the dreams of his 13 year old daughter. Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos are some of the most evil and corrupt men on the planet but if they chose to use their wealth to support the dreams of their innocent children that would be one admirable act in a sea of their greed. For me it’s the same case here. Even if her father is a financial opportunist with generational wealth and privilege… he used it for his child. That’s pure motivation and a virtuous act.

Yes dads money is why she's still here after 18 years :jonny5: and the biggest star on the planet currently.

Taylor has money, good PR, hype, and white privilege. The biggest star on the planet would be able to significantly impact the black community. Taylor has not.

I feel a bit bad for Austin. Imagine your parents funneling all their time and energy into a sibling and paying you dust.

Having supporting parents to fund your dreams when they see the talent in you is very nice, in fact, being supported is something every artist dreams about, so there's nothing wrong with that. Also, not a single swiftie on earth ever denies the privilege that Taylor has had from the start, but you know that no one can force you to love someone and support them if you don't want to, right?, especially for 17 years.

Though I appreciate the amount of money and time Scott spent on Taylor and her career, I still feel like he is not the type of man I would trust on a normal day.

On the other hand, Andrea is the angel and supported Taylor throughout her entire career and I love the fact that Taylor and her are very close.

Austin seems fine with it I guess, he's living a quiet life in peace, and yet he works for the biggest person on earth right now. I'm pretty sure he rolls on a bed of dollars every night without having to deal with the crap Taylor deals with on a daily bases.

Having money is one thing, but I still would feel like **** if my own parents complained about babysitting me.

I ain't gonna defend that ****, wdym babysitting your own child????

I totally understand why not being appreciated by your parents the way your sister is can be tough, but Austin has never been as ambitious as Taylor.

Can y’all snap yourself out of your parasocial, celebrity/billionaire ass-kissing hypnotic state for one moment and stop acting like anybody’s saying “Taylor is the biggest artist in the world cuz of daddy’s money”? No. She clearly has worked very hard and has a ton of talent which is what has allowed her to sustain this insane level of fame for so long AND her father and all his money, as the evidence literally confirms here, played a huge role in affording her opportunities that the majority of other people with Taylor’s same talent level and work ethic would never be able to obtain. She benefited greatly from being born into a wealthy family and also from being a white woman. It’s just a fact. It doesn’t discredit her hard work. It’s simply the reality of the situation. Two things can be true at once, but y’all would rather see everything through the perspective of a juvenile 14 year old. Grow up, babes

So then why doesn't Paris Hilton have a thriving music career or any nepotism baby?

:ahh:

The Jackson family comes from poverty and Joe/Katherine tapped into the musical talents of all their children. Janet has been singing, dancing, acting, etc. since the 1970s w/ her siblings on The Jackson Variety Show.

In 1974, Joe Jackson had his family, including daughters Rebbie, LaToya and Janet perform at casinos and resorts in the Las Vegas area.

Comparing Janet who along w/ her siblings used their talent to rise out of poverty can NOT be compared to someone whose wealth goes back generations.
