If anything Pure Heroine deserved a Grammy more than Royals, and she was robbed in BNA where she didn't get a nomination, only to beat the eventual BNA winner in SOTY, so it seems obvious she would have been the favourite in BNA as well.

For anything but the song Royals yes. I still don’t get the love for that song there’s literally almost nothing to it other then a drum beat and a bassy low end synth striking every once in a while, completely lukewarm production wise and nothing too impressive otherwise.

Yes, and she deserved BNA and AOTY that year and AOTY for Melo in 2018

Of course she deserved her Grammys. She deserved even more, to be honest. She deserved Album of The Year with Pure Heroine and with Melodrama.

 

Outside of the singles, even some album tracks were Grammy worthy. Like, Ribs is one of the best songs ever released. You can't fault it.

The Grammys get it wrong a lot of the time, but it seems like Royals is the obvious choice here.

 

The song was acclaimed and is now one of just two female solo songs to be awarded RIAA 14x Platinum in the US.

There are exceptions, but sales plus acclaim is a often a decent indicator of what the Grammys will consider a deserving winner.
