Four songs with horrid lyrics, Born This Way has the most entertaining ones considering that at one point she's just name dropping random stuff in the bridge :ahh:

Music video wise Firework is the only memorable one. The others have nothing going on.

I think all four songs have good and bad points.

We R Who We R seems to be the least concerned with its lyrical content and is the most shallow, but the lyrics at least have character (I can't imagine anyone else pulling off the necklace line for example).

Firework is still painfully sentimental and cheesy, but if you go back and read them the lyrics aren't that bad. And actually if you cut out the atrocious plastic bag line, the subsequent metaphors pack a bit more of a punch:

Quote

Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin
Like a house of cards, one blow from cavin' in?
Do you ever feel already buried deep?
Six feet under screams, but no one seems to hear a thing

Shake It Off has an unlistenably juvenile chorus in that 'intentionally cringe' style Taylor sometimes favours in her lyrics. But the verses are way better and have some lines that, in isolation, are pretty decent ('never miss a beat/lightning on my feet' and 'dancing on my own/make the moves up as I go').

Reading them side by side, you can see that Born This Way clearly had the most thought and time put into its lyrics (whatever Gaga claims about how long it took her to write). She gets points for rhyming 'superstar' with 'boudoir' and 'Same DNA/Born This Way', and there are some interesting and original ideas put into the song. But I think the main downside is that the combination of unabashed sentimentality with very campy lyrics ('don't be a drag, just be a queen!') is really just a lot, and it's what ultimately turns me off from the song.

For me it's kind of a wash. If I had to rank them, I would probably go Born This Way > Firework > Shake It Off > We R Who We R.

BTW is risky unlike other songs, so that.

there’s nothing risky about representing the lebanese population.

Born This way

edit: wait I didn't see the poll and I thought it was just about the songs in general :skull: none of them are anything to write home about, including their MVs and lyrics
