Supreme Court in the 1940s: Movie studios cannot own or be affiliated with theater chains because that is a monopoly of the production/distribution/exhibition pipeline; they have ten years to divest themselves of their theatrical real estate holdings

 

 

Supreme Court in the 2020s: Movie studios can do literally whatever, they can gobble each other up thereby eliminating competition overnight, oh and btw they're allowed to exhibit their own **** again via terrible streaming services which they can own now

 

 

OT: This hurts because Paramount and Warners are the two best film studios in cinema history and they should not be one and the same

to be honest, the literal ONLY thing that appeases me about this is that both Warner and Paramount are respectful of their monstrous legacies and histories, unlike what D*sney did to Fox which was gross

 

both studios invest a lot of money on restoring and releasing their classics on home entertainment so at least there is a sliver of hope on that front

This is true. But we know what Z*sl*v is capable of. He already attempted to dismantle TCM and it was only the intervention of Scorsese, Spielberg, and PTA that saved it. He doesn't respect art or artists and he is not to be trusted with this or any other important cultural institution.

also true unfortunately… but let’s see what happens, hopefully he gets the **** out of there once the sale is made. if rumors are to be believed he was only going to stay to prep and see the company through the next sale/merger so he could be gone as soon as april
