Sis!? No SH*T no South African would say anything like this, wtf are we talking about here?? :deadbanana4:

Nope. She a brainwashed, pretty fool. And is getting the lashings she rightfully deserves.

And yall have absolutely ZERO idea what you're talking about. And African-Americans and black people worldwide reclaimed the N word, it's reclamation was a huge deal. You have no idea what the f*ck you're talking about with that at all.

Andddd you only proved my point further in your comments, I ain't movin'. :coffee2:

The term "coloured" is currently treated as a neutral description in Southern Africa, classifying people of mixed race ancestry. "Coloured" may be seen as offensive in some other western countries, such as Britain and the United States of America. Because Tyla is South African, the term coloured is not offensive. What is not clicking?? Again, she's not going to erase her  colored racial background and start identifying as black so as to please Americans!!! She's coloured, the sooner you accept; the better things will be for you.

Sis no you're just saying the same thing  :hoetenks:

I'm completely correct and again, the lashings she's received from the community are completely deserved. If she was so steadfast on being coloured, she would never have taken the video down.

South Africa's sociopolitical structure in itself is a huge problem sis, do you not know what happens outside of the meccas? let's not get into it because I will legit never stop.

She's brainwashed but I think she'll learn, she already has seeing as she wont speak about it. And tbqh we will very certainly have to agree to disagree.

So you can reclaim a slur meant to dehumanise black people but she can't say that she's a coloured person?

That's what you're saying she's anti-black for, for acknowledging that shes mixed. She has the same admixture as Jhene Aiko , is Jhene Aiko supposed to say she's a black woman too?

Sis doesn't want to be called/associated with the black community. She wants to be called coloured which she seems to not realize (but she does) is an 'identity' imposed onto black south africans once the derogatory term Bantu did not work anymore. And is common knowledge to be a Jim Crow favorite term, it is part of the reason that South africa is in political dissaray. And literally said so while putting her hair into a traditionally black fashion in the video :deadbanana4:

She took the tik tok video down.

She's racially mixed, not black, and in SA the term has historically been coloured for that admixture.

The white supremacist one drop rule in the US is not a universal fact.

The only aesthetic she reps is her very own as a South African.

Calm down.

That coloured BS is exactly the stuff Nelson Mandela was trying to stop. It's only in south Africa this term is coined, its factually offensive and has caused much division in the motherland from that region. Apartheid is happening for a reason and she knew that as the downfall from it is very clearly seen outside of the "white mecca" cities of SA. Bantu and Coloured are both extremely problematic. Her accepting and using that term is dumb of her and she knows it. No sympathy as she is getting her lashings.

Her saying that was a choice to align herself within a certain sociopolitical situation currently unfolding, she's brainwashed.

No offense but you sound so uneducated on this topic.

Nelson Mandela never wanted to erase racial classification. He advocated for the rights and freedom of Black and other oppressed people in South Africa.

Racial classification predates Apartheid by centuries. In fact it dates back to the 16th century. White people literally created ALL racial classifications to sow division and chaos amongst people. By that very logic, every racial classification is a result of the white oppressor and is wrong.

And it's laughable that in the very same breath you try to claim that the Black community has reclaimed the N-word. White people are still using that term as a slur. Just because rappers decided to co-opt that word in the 80s/90s, does not erase the horrible meaning and history behind it.

You have selective outrage when it comes to this. Both of those terms (Coloured and the N-word) are considered offensive in America. South Africans do not consider that term Coloured offensive. Some Coloured people have majority Asian ancestry, how the hell would they be considered Black? That would WRONG and OFFENSIVE.

Sis wtf are you talking about? Mandela went on record during his tenure saying he disliked the classifications bantu and coloured because it came from an attempt to enforce minority government's policy of racial segregation.

They wont let you even be black. Did you not remember the radio host who did the entire show on how "coloured" is imposed onto black South Africans?

Sis I am a black male with heavy Nigerian connection in my family, it is certainly clear here that I know exactly what I'm talking about but many are never ready to have the conversation.

This terminology has been hurtful and is contributing to the watering down of an entire culture. And why would anyone classify someone with majority Asian heritage as coloured period? Thats showing just how idiotic the terminology is. We all colored if that's the case.

Sis have you even been to the motherland? Like get real. I'll never ever move on this issue.  And again, if she thought she was right she would've left that video up. Period.

Like I said, the white man literally came up with racial classifications and we're still using those very classifications to this day. If one is problematic, then all are since they come from the same people.

Tyla has Indian, Black and Caucasian ancestry. Which race do you want her to classify as? She is multicultural and multiracial, which is exactly what Coloured IN SOUTH AFRICA means. The one-drop rule is stupid and outdated, that's why you'll see a ton of discourse on who gets to identify as Black and how some consider Biracial people Black and others don't.

I have family from South Africa and I don't think she should identify as Black at all. Her ancestry does not support that classification and for generations her family has engaged in cultural traditions entirely separate from the Black community.

And she didn't delete the video because she thinks it's wrong, she deleted it because she got backlash from Americans who find the term offensive.

I won't move from this issue either so we'll agree to disagree.

I know plenty of people in South Africa that call themselves Coloured. It means mixed race to them.
