Starfish Posted December 19, 2023 Posted December 19, 2023 Placenta spaghetti, anyone? Be it encapsulated, blended in a smoothie, or even roasted with vegetables, there are many ways that a person can choose to consume placenta after childbirth. With this vital pregnancy organ gaining traction as a “superfood,” more & more people are open to the idea. The practice of eating placenta, or “placentophagy,” is common in the animal kingdom. Literature suggests that animals eat their placenta as a way of regaining nutrients that might have been lost during delivery, and to encourage mother-child bonding. It is the latter hypotheses that have made placentophagy attractive to human mothers, and with celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and January Jones advocating the practice, it is more popular than ever. Research has shown that the placenta contains a variety of nutrients — such as fiber, protein, and potassium — as well as hormones including estradiol and testosterone. What is more, there is an abundance of mothers across the globe who claim that eating it helped to improve their postnatal health by improving milk production, mood and energy. Would you like to try it?
Femalien Posted December 19, 2023 Posted December 19, 2023 Its a waste filtering organ: "To start with, the placenta is not a sterile organ. It contains toxins like mercury and lead, as well as potential bacteria and viruses. It even has its own bacterial culture. Any infection during labor will, most likely, be present in the placental tissue." People eat livers and kidneys which also filter waste but placentas in psrticular seem to be rich in toxins 1

Tropez Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 Shouldn’t this question be asked towards mothers? I’m a sure 99% of Atrl will not be giving birth. 1
