Yeah, this happened around a decade ago. They did recently decide to uphold the law earlier this year though, there was some vote in the Seimas.

Argh, I hate all the crap about "family values" and "LGBTQ being harmful to minors." What's really harmful is denying people access to knowledge that might help them, even just by showing them that there's other queer people in the world. You're not alone.

Way to go Eesti!

It's funny how the conservatives in the Netherlands in 2001 were saying that nobody would follow them in legalizing same-sex marriage, but now, in the 22+ years since, 35 other countries have done it, lol. I hope it takes a lot less time to get the next 35 nations in the list.

I think I missed this back in Nov 2023.

Bar chart showing that views of same-sex marriage vary across 12 places in Asia. In Japan, 68% say they at least somewhat favor allowing gays and lesbians to marry legally. In Indonesia, just 5% say this. Median favorability across 12 places is 49%.

Dot plot chart comparing views of same-sex marriage across 12 places surveyed in Asia, by religious affiliation. The religiously unaffiliated tend to be among the most likely in a given public to support same-sex marriage. Muslims and Christians are often, but not always, among the least likely to support it.

Taiwan being at only 45% 5 to 6 years after the legalization of SSM is honestly quite disappointing. The fact that Singapore, with (1) a higher percentage of Muslims and Christians, (2) a mainstream media environment where homos cannot be portrayed positively and (3) a tragically low number of BL actors, is also at 45% is just...

Hopefully there's some chance of same-sex unions here before I turn 50. To be honest, a 45% support rate here (in 2023) is really quite encouraging.
