Europeans, is it time to abolish 1 and 2 cent coins?

You can't buy anything with them.

You can't use them in most machines.

They cost more to produce than they're worth (probably, idk).

Nobody picks them off the floor.

Seriously, why do we keep using these little spawns of Satan?

Yes.

We haven’t been using them for over a decade in the Netherlands.

Yes but what happens when someone pays cash for something and is owed change?

tbh physical cash is heading towards extinction anyway, I don't think there's really any point investing all the time and energy needed to withdraw small value coins from circulation. I bet most mints haven't produced any new ones in ages too

They should just round up or down

You round up or down the prices. €1.36 becomes €1.35, €1.99 becomes €2.00 (or €1.95 if stores want to), etc.

The only problem would be the price of bread. I can't speak for all of Europe, but here in Portugal a 1 cent change in the price tends to be a big deal.

As long as Germany is in eurozone nothings gonna change... deutsche Omas will cut you if you don't give them their pffenibg back. Plus germans LOVE cash, and I mean L O V E

Yes, they should've been a while ago. They should even get rid of the 5 cents imo.

The only thing they do is clog up my wallet and I never use them.

Omg

I have a whole jar with them :dies: it's so heavy too!

I don’t use cash - so I don’t care

I didn't know there were still countries using those small coins. I thought most countries solved the change problem years ago.

I totally agree, I often leave them to the cashier because it's just pointless weight to carry on my pockets.

This is why i pay exclusively with card. Got sooo tired of carrying all those pennies. I still have a huge bucket of less than 5 cent coins that weighs like 5 kg :lmao:

Canada did this a few years ago and it makes soooo much sense. Lowest coin being 5 cents now.

We did this in Canada and it works so much better. Still weird for me to get pennies when I go to the US or parts of Europe.
