Coffee lovers: How to fix drip coffee not being hot enough?

Recommended Posts

I have a drip coffee machine

My only issue is that the coffee I brew is never hot enough. I use cold water to brew it.

I've heard of suggestions to boil the water first - the only thing is this would add another 5 minutes and was wondering if there's a better solution?

I always have to microwave the coffee to make it hot which I hate

Any suggestions?

Get a better machine.

Put your coffee machine in the oven  The warm environment will help.

@naval23 Do you descale your machine often? Sometimes the limescale can clog up your machine meaning the coffee won’t be hot enough coming out, happened me many times, I’ve got an automatic coffee machine, but one other suggestion is that you can preheat your cups up, or preheat your machine even, that’s what a lot of people recommend to preheat every element you can, as it means your coffee will be hotter coming out.

I have an Ember mug that warms my coffee to the exact degree I want it. It was an investment, but maybe an investment that’s worth it?

Black coffee has basically no calories.

The Ember mugs are amazing. If you don’t want to spend that much money a simple mug warmer would do, you can also use them for candles :giraffe:

Why would you use cold water to begin with? Try it with room temp water. I honestly doubt drip coffee machines have thermometers to measure how hot the water is before it starts dripping over the coffee grounds, it's probably just a simple timer of how long to heat up the water.

I have a coffee mug warmer, that actually heats up my coffee pretty well—alongside simply keeping it warm. Right now, even, I've been sipping on this coffee for two hours and it's still hot.

Thank you had no idea about that!

Thank you - I will look into a  mug warmer - it's actually a pretty frequent issue I've seen discussed on the coffee subreddit.

That person is right about descaling though - that can be a lifesaver. My nespresso needs it fairly often or it gets clogged and leaky with a sour taste

What kind of coffee pot do you have? Mine comes out so hot that I usually have to wait for it to cool down.

I'd invest in a good coffee maker. SCA has a great list of certified coffee makers that are peer reviewed.

However, you don't want it brewed too hot - which will affect the taste and quality due to over-extraction of the beans.

Moccamaster is a good industry standard, but I really love my GE Cafe.
