ARTPØP Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 The Loveliest Time is truly one of Carly Rae's best projects Happy to see it on your list! 1

I actually have a feeling this will be her best album. I can hear in YB that she's onto something great there 13 hours ago, Mr. Blue_Shirt said: Also, Eat Your Man is highkey her best comeback single and she should've reject that Timbaland collab like, his production aren't that good nowadays When is mami dropping that comeback album tho?? 10 hours ago, K$Ellie said: New Jeans was an iconic intro this effortless BOP I loveee it 5 hours ago, ARTPØP said: The Loveliest Time is truly one of Carly Rae's best projects Happy to see it on your list! The way Psychedelic Switch was a cultural reset The biggest disappointments of 2023 drags and lashings PinkPantheress - Heaven Knows True Romance has terrible mixing, NTMT is ruined with a rap part and songs are too short. I need more than just a hook without a song around it. That's why Capable of Love is that btich. Poppy - ZIG This is not the time to go weak and soft with your music. I need hard alt-rock and heavy electronic. This is just generic pop. Doja Cat - Scarlet Probably too edgy for me! Mitski - The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We You get that #1 on Pitchfork end year list once and I guess you realize your music doesn't have to be interesting and pretentious-less anymore. Madonna & Sam Smith - Vulgar Please stop! For the love of god stop! Aaaaahhhh! Boygenius - The Record Ruined music! Roisin Terfy Lizzo 2
Album Leak Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Heaven Knows was a big dud which was surprising to me, as I've really grown to love the dreamy liquid DnB type of beat that has become prevalent in (indie) pop music as of late, partly thanks to her efforts and the success of Boy's a liar Pt. 2. But man, there really isn't much depth in that album at all. The way the rap feature RUINED Nice to meet you is also one of the biggest musical sins this year.
Born to Run Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 I kinda forgot about Princess Nokia, lemme stream.
Alldeezy Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 I agree that DIG was a disapointment compared to her last 2 albums though Hard was the highlight of that album Doja yeh sorta feel the same .. probably only like 4 songs I use from it. I still love her debut and Hot Hot pink dont think she'll top those masterpieces sadly
Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 The way I've seen so many people drag Mitski this year is making me cackle, like she really can't escape Laurel Hell and it is one step away from her getting her own Liz Phair moment Yeah i'm not enjoying Poppy's new album too. I guess she's testing the water to cater to more mainstream audience with this one but it really fails imo. Also the Roisin and Lizzo drag
ATRL Moderator khalyan Posted December 13, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted December 13, 2023 Capable of Love really does stand out against the rest of the album. I wish the album itself was that strong.
Ewan Chaos Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Roisin's debacle is easily my biggest musical disappointment of 2023 as well. Hate her ass. I love the PP album! But I get why some people might not. The Mitski lashing too nn.
poki Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 idk any of these albums so looks like I'm in the clear

Apparenty there is a solo version but only on physical editions? Maybe there is still hope for that song. But let's be honest, even if great it's still super short with or without rap part 21 hours ago, Born to Run said: I kinda forgot about Princess Nokia, lemme stream. Remmy Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 Some of the releases on your bests list would be on my disappointments list if I had one Janelle just didn't do it for me, the whole album just felt... severely underbaked mini mix & ESV were both fine. At least there's strong highlights. That! Feels Good! and The Loveliest Time (Although they're both weaker than the previous album.) Gag Order was cute, wish I enjoyed it more. Fine Line I feel like this one has always been underrated. bad idea right?, Jaded, Psychadelic Switch yessss all these 2023 standouts Church Outfit is so good. Same for uhoh, such an effortless bop. Tonguetwister, New Jeans, Speed Drive Eat Your Man could've been an eat, sadly it just didn't turn out that way. Disappointments~ Yeah, Poppy really did us dirty by releasing the 3 best tracks first & making it seem like an AOTY contender. I actually enjoyed Boygenius' album way more than expected. 1
BlackoutZone Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 I was ready to praise so many great picks on first page, but Heaven knows in disappointments kinda hit me like a truck I can get behind the mixing issue, but overall this album embodies everything she excels at and was a delightful natural progression from her previous (already great) DIY sound, maybe it will grow idk.. Kinda giggling how you said Mitski stopped trying to be interesting after getting all acclaim in the world for her previous work while having Janelle in best albums for her album which arguably has 0 substance, just vibes, a full 180 to what rest of her discography embodies. Still though, many great picks 1
GreatestLoveofAll Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 oh the mitski hate is new to me i thought she was loved here. i was just getting into my love all mine or whatever that song is called. and yeah, lizzo disappointed me with those allegations. i wanna wish they not true but i feel like she'd be fighting them harder if they werent... 1

The key word is expectations. I didn't know that many Janelle's songs before so I didn't know what to expect from AOP. It is different from her previous works and it put a lot of her fans off but I didn't care about it that much because I was looking/listetning from different perspective. But tbf I also didn't like Float like other people and I honestly thought I'm gonna hate the album. The same for Heaven Knows - Capable of Love was her first song that got me hooked and I was dissapointed that other songs are not the same. When it comes to Mitski me dragging her is more of a gag, I know she cultivated huge fanbase over the years, my problem with her is mostly the fact that her music is too exalted? for me, I don't if that's the best word for it. But her songs that I like, like 'Nobody' or 'Me and my husband', are more ironic and accesible but she doesn't seem to be interested in going more in this direction. 4 hours ago, GreatestLoveofAll said: oh the mitski hate is new to me i thought she was loved here. Kern Posted December 15, 2023 Author Posted December 15, 2023 (edited) My favorite albums of 2023 part 2 Princess Nokia - i love you but this is goodbye (EP) I love Princess Nokia and (mostly) everything she releases. This EP has some cute tracks like Complicated and Happy and left me wanting more. L'Rain - I Killed Your Dog I wouldn't call this pop music. It's experimental and psychedelic so not everyones cup of tea. But I really like this album - it's weird, passionate, psychedelic and yet melodic and fun. Olivia Rodrigo - Guts 'Cause I've made some real big mistakes But you make the worst one look fine I should've known it was strange You only come out at night Conall - Patient Zero (EP) This is lowkey stupidjock-core. Ava Max - Diamonds & Dancefloors An album full of gorgeous gay bops that turned me into a maxi-pad. Jockstrap - I<3UQTINVU Great remix album. Where is that 50/50 remix they played live tho??? Tinashe - BB/ANG3L Yes girl. La Femme - Teatro Lucido Y'all won't believe the chokehold that cha-cha song had on me when it came out Caroline Polachek - Desire... Pretty In Possible, Bunny..., Bilions > entire careers Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion - Bongos/WAP (EP) Someone tell Tinashe that she can just bundle all of her singles with '2 On' and make the best EP of any year. Kern Posted December 15, 2023 Author Posted December 15, 2023 New song in my favorite songs of 2023: Lolahol - Boy Next Door

Hmm yeah that's fair, I actually haven't seen anyone getting into Janelle for the first time with this album so I just automatically assumed you're a long time fan too nn. Her debut, The ArchAndroind is genuinely my favorite album of all time so her going from pulling off these incredibly creative conceptual projects to just *vibes* is a bit harder to swallow. Still though I also found a few songs that I've enjoyed much so I get it! I understand, though honestly her previous album, Laurel Hell, was definitely a more mainstream attempt and the key tracks off of it were, dare I say just synthpop-pastiche bops, and it felt so off to me And I recall many other people feeling the same so I can see why she came back to her classic, pretentious self. Guess we will see what future brings OT: There is no way the WAP/Bongos EP is a thing? dklfsd. They really were scrambling.
