finishing up albums today and songs list tomorrow 

Beyond the Uncanny Valley is a fun lil hip hop album. Big bops as the kids once said. Guts is a great follow up for miss Olivia. She's really found her sound with this album and she's proven she's here to stay. Miss Hannah served such an amazing debut album and I can't wait to hear more from her.

PinkPantheress really proved herself on her debut with such a rich sound. Glad to see her get her flowers with the success of Boy's a liar pt 2. In another timeline Voice Notes would be my aoty but I didn't spend as much time with the album. It's so rich and reminds me a lil bit of Jamila Woods at her best. Romy's debut is such an amazing atmospheric house album. She really nailed the aesthetic.

Yeule's follow up to the amazing glitch princess is just as good. Sister is so talented. Funny how CRJ topped her 2022 album with the B sides. I like how much fun she has on these collection of tracks. It's contagious.  Now entering my top 10 albums. Fountain Baby is such a fun album from Amaarae. I love how she mixes Afrobeats to create a sound that’s truly hers. Great production and a lot of fun, especially the first half. Hedonism never sounded so good or thought out.

ALBUMS 9 -1

Yaeji's debut was definitely worth the wait. Really slaps and the production is just amazing. So happy to see Corinne Bailey Rae back after so many years and I'm in love with this concept album from her. Great stuff. Jessie can do no wrong with her nu disco sound (ignore the genre mistake oop)

Another great effortless album from Tennis. I really enjoy the airiness of this record and how their production and ears for great melodies remain consistent. Desire era was kinda a mess with how long it took the album to come out after the lead single but it was definitely worth the wait. Another dreamy amazing rnb album from Kali Uchis. I definitely prefer this sound to her spanish stuff but I know there'll be good stuff on her 2014 album.

Now to my top 3 

3. Kinda gagged this is Lana’s 9th album. The writing on this is so different from her older albums and I really love the themes of nostalgia, family and love through a pretty optimistic lens for Lana. Hoping she gets something at the Grammys for this one. 
Faves: Sweet, Kintsugi, Let The Light In
 

2. This was AOTY for most of the year for me. Great mix of ambient pop/ alternative rnb that sets a perfect background for such a sultry album. On the surface, it's a very lowkey album but there are a lot of bangers that might hit you instantly or take a few listens to click. Can’t wait for the remix album next year
Faves: Enough for Love, On The Run, Holier

 

1. Such a beautiful album that did take a few listens to really click with me and I ended up in love with every track. The singles for this made me return to her previous album “Not Even Happiness” which finally clicked for me this year. I think finding out this record was on themes of grief, love and resilience after the death of her music partner Eric Littmann really resonated with me and just made the record a lot more than it is on the surface. Really atmospheric and ethereal album mixing folk and ambient pop. Reminds me a little bit of titanic rising by Weyes Blood.
