seeing ariana on stage again did something to me...

Ari looked really uncomfortable, she kept looking over at Mariah and Jennifer almost like she didn’t want to look into the crowd.. I guess it’s been a while and she hasn’t been in the public eye since the controversy, not to mention the drastic change in aesthetic.

Ariana has never been comfortable on stage. There’s a reason her tours don’t have spotlighting. Unfortunately I think she suffers from imposter syndrome, and probably feels insecure next to Mariah and Jennifer. You can tell by the way she’s always trying to make herself seem smaller on stage

I don't think it's imposter syndrome, she knows how talented she is and has always known. It's anxiety plus she's kinda insecure. I agree on everything else though.

Why Mariah just be lying? She just lies for no reason :rip:

“We didn’t have time to rehearse” but a video just dropped of them rehearsing…

Every time she lies, her voice cripples even more @suburbannature :dies:

Yes because you do a sound check with all the dancers, lights, and choreography. Be for real.

Yeah, Ariana's always been insecure when performing with other women, especially ones she reveres and considers inspirations. Even the times she's performed with Patti, who she's close with, she gets shy and almost tries to shrink herself, avoiding belts and choosing to instead fawn over how her duet partner is singing. Her self-depreciating personality comes through. I still remember Patti going "sing, baby girl, come on, sing!!!".

The performance she did with Kelly of Santa, Can't You Hear Me was good vocally, but the stage chemistry was a bit stilted. Even Dangerous Woman with Xtina was a bit awkward.

Rain On Me at the VMAs is probably the main performance of her with a female peer where she was completely at ease and commanding the performance vocally.

J-Hud and Mariah did well! We know Mariah's daughter can sing but I felt like her mic was too low. Still a beautiful moment between these three talented women :clap3:

Oh please. A ridiculous time to quote it.

She lies a lot. My favorite lie of hers is her saying that Tommy was trying to control her by telling her what to wear and dressing her up like “Mary Poppins”. When the real reason is because he knew that if she was in control of her image, her voice and artistry would come second to it because she’s overtly insecure about the way that she looks. She can be up on the stage screeching for dear life, but as long as she has good lighting and a good “ensemble”, it doesn’t matter what she sounds like or how the records sound.

And don’t get me started on her lying about the mental hospital incident…”I was tired”. Or the time she talked about having no problem with Whitney but she sat there and looked in her face and ignored her at the AMAs in the early 90s.  Girl, STOP.

this is the weirdest post ever and the misogyny :deadbanana2:

it is WELL-documented that Tommy Mottolla was stifling and tried to control her image by playing down her sex appeal. To assert that Mariah Carey would ever put her artistry second to her appearance if not for Tommy's intervention is so backwards and odd.

She didn't just say "I was tired." She said it was a physical and emotional breakdown - there is an entire quarter of her memoir dedicated to it.

And Whitney also publicly said on a dozen occasions that there was never a problem between them despite the industry's attempts to pit them against each other.

seek help, beloved.

We see it now babygirl. In fact, we’ve been seeing it for years. What do you mean? Instead of trying to improve what’s left of that voice and challenging her artistry, she focuses more on the way that she looks and just lets the backing tracks do all the work.

Whitney may not have had a problem with her but Mariah certainly did. Ignoring her after she tried to introduce herself? She was definitely nasty then and then lied for many years but Bebe clocked that as soon as he dropped his book. SMH.

Her last album is one of her most acclaimed and her vocal decline is a combination of normal aging, having vocal nodules since childhood (as confirmed by her doctor in a documentary), stress, overuse, etc. And it's exacerbated by singing songs that are far more difficult than those by other female vocalists. In fact, she's apparently been taking care of her voice as the live clips in her recent shows are leaps and bounds better than 2021-2022. She's been refraining from belting anything higher than C#5 or so and now seems comfortable to that point with healthier technique. Almost every singer lips large portions of their show to protect their voice.

Whitney and Mariah both publicly said they never had issues with each other so it's interesting you'd use that as an example of only one lying. They both said they initially had reservations because of the way the industry works but became fast friends after working together. It's telling that you are so desperate to believe Bebe's story from the book rather than from the ladies' own mouths, but it's also clear what your intentions are.

Bebe didn’t lie. She even told on herself on how obnoxious and nasty she was at the beginning of her career when she mocked Eddie Murphy at the airport. Take off them cracked stan glasses.

You can explain the vocal decline any way that you like but she’ll put on another layer of foundation and turn her head to her “good side” before finishing a phrase all the way through on key.

How did you twist that tongue-in-cheek Eddie Murphy story into some kind of evidence of her being "nasty" :deadbanana2:

some of you truly need help and a lesson in emotional intelligence.

No, some of you truly need a lesson at reading the facts.
