UseYourIllusion2002 Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 *besides her debut, The Fame I'm Breathless was released in May 1990, eight years into Madonna's career. Some consider it her fifth studio album or her second soundtrack, but it's her overall 7th major release. The album barely got any promotion and consisted of little cute jazz-inspired tracks and only had two singles. It was released two months after Vogue was released at a time when albums were released three weeks after their leads, and was replaced by The Immaculate Collection, leading to its short chart run. Yet, the album has spent more weeks in the top 10 on the Billboard 200 than any Lady Gaga album besides her debut album, The Fame. The question is, why? Why did Madonna's little side album, sandwiched between the massive albums Like a Prayer and The Immaculate Collection, out perform every Gaga album? I'm Breathless: 3-2-3-3-3-2-2-4-5-8-9 (11 weeks) The Fame Monster: 5-OUT-9-10-6 (4 weeks) Born This Way: 1-1-2-4-8-OUT-8 (6 weeks) ARTPOP: 1-8-7 (3 weeks) Joanne: 1-5-OUT-2-8 (4 weeks) Chromatica: 1-2-6 (3 weeks) 1 7 1 20
The7thStranger Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 Because Madonna and Lady GaGa contended with two very different music industries. Had Lady GaGa had her peak in 1986, their numbers could have been closer. Although I think her career would have had a more Cyndi-esque trajectory on the charts (and Cyndi would have a GaGa-esque trajectory had her peak been in 2010). 6 2 1

ATRL Moderator supaspaz Posted December 10, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted December 10, 2023 That's a very big asterisk. 1 5 2
HardBambi Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 Such a great soundtrack. I love what can you lose? He’s a man is such a strong track! I like it all, just saying. And Madonna’s voice is so strong 🫶🏻
loveisdead9582 Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 ASIB says hello. But they were dealing with very different markets. Gaga was towards the beginning of the streaming era and digital purchases were still a thing. Madonna was solely purchases. That asterisk of yours wasn’t even kind of slick.
Popular Post Zaram Posted December 10, 2023 Popular Post Posted December 10, 2023 I'm Breathless spent more weeks in the Top 10 than any Gaga album*, why? *besides her debut, The Fame and ASIB You can still close this thread, op 28
Tistotal Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 Isn’t it shocking how BTW only spent 6 weeks in top 10? Who blocked Madge to be #1?
Oktober Knight Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 Bigger artist and I'm Breathless had Vogue on it. 2
GreatestLoveofAll Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 i think its more of a win for Madonna than a drag for Gaga especially since the latter has two albums over the 25-week mark in the top 10.
Miss Fortune Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 If this is what you sit at home thinking about then I would recommend powering down your device, opening the door and getting some fresh air 1 2
BrandNewBrandon Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 Gaga had TWO albums with over 25 weeks in the Top 10 (The Fame and ASIB) out of six original albums. No shade to Madonna but your thread is a flop.
period sis Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 Because Lady GaGa's albums normally don't spend many weeks in the top 10. See: every gaga album that isn't her debut or the movie one 1 5
BILLIONAIRE✘BOY Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 Using you Illusions indeed. That smell coming from your onion flaked armpits/unwashed ass is getting to your brain. 1
lg6chromatica Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 Madonna = relevant, successful Gaga = irrelevant, unsuccessful satisfactory?? 1
Big Bad Wolf Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 The Fame has charted longer on Billboard than ANY Madonna album. Why? 1
Just a Gay on ATRL Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 Leaving out The Fame from any Gaga conversation when it's literally integral to her career That's like if you left out The Bodyguard from a Whitney conversation, Jagged Little Pill from an Alanis conversation, or Come On Over from a Shania conversation. 1

Tylerbv Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 Demi Lovato is bigger than Madonna if you ignore all Madonna’s albums and singles. Why? 7
