jesus del rey Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Well Beyonce had the Kelis drama which was untasteful and then there's PF2 which is completely untasteful. I say its a close call 1 1
Popular Post Kristie Kuwa Posted December 9, 2023 Popular Post Posted December 9, 2023 Beys use is very intentional and her songs still manage to sound original. Onika takes a sample, speeds it up or just uses a catchy hook, and raps over it without any significant alteration. 16 2
Album Leak Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 The fact that almost half of Pink Friday Girls is just the original Girls Just Want to Have Fun but it doesn't credit Cyndi as a featuring artists makes me feel some sort of way. 1
iamanearthling Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 You guys know which one did it well. Lols.
Phaunzie Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 I'm confused what's wrong with sampling, both have duds but also excellent use of samples.
zoldyck Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Beyonce has a vision. Nicki last solo hits sampled some classic she decided to get as much as possible in hope of securing another hit.
Vitaly Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 None. No amount if sampling is legal or "respectful " without permission from (all) the copyright holder(s) There aren't any rules in making music, but unfortunately there is in selling and getting paid for music. One can sample whatever you want on your music so long it only ended up in your hard drive for personal use. I.E your siblings or cousins bat/bar mitzvah or quinceañera parties. But once you uploaded it commercially, such as as way of promotion, getting gigs, getting a contract or actually selling it, then you are bound under copyright law. I am more interested in saying which use of sampling is the laziest and I would say Nicki cos she uses almost half of the song she sampled into her songs, and she using it in the least interesting way, case in point, the track Are You Gone Already. It is just so uninspired. Especially in the world where The Clash's song can turned into Paper Planes and be a hit. At very least Beyoncé using samples to actually enriched her songs, and people barely noticed it until some artists sounding out how their songs were used without permission, instead of just straight out putting it on a track and sing/rap over it.
ImpressMeMuch Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Rolling at the serious answers to this setup lmao 1

Y'all need to stop with the fake news and narratives. Beyoncé had all the legal permissions for each and every one of the samples used on Renaissance. All of them were cleared with the people that LEGALLY had the rights to said pieces of music. 2
vale9001 Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 (edited) Some of Nicki recent songs are basically the original song with her doing a rap part. This is what i call a rap remix of a pop song, not an original song. Beyoncè uses that in the same way basically all modern black music uses it, so i don't get what's the point to call out her for that and then calling Frank Ocean, Kanye and Kendrick geniuses. and btw using samples in an original way to mix them to an original new sound takes compostive talent.. it's stupid to think that's unoriginal cause every pop song has combination of notes already used in the past, so it's not very different. But then why Kelis said what she said? And the way that interpolation actually removed from the song after that also not very pretty for Beyoncé though?
Dialamba Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Beyoncé chooses her samples wisely sometimes I don’t know even know she uses while Nicki is blatantly obvious and it’s Half assed produced songs.
AxelFox Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Just now, Vitaly said: But then why Kelis said what she said? And the way that interpolation actually removed from the song after that also not very pretty for Beyoncé though? Because Kelis does NOT have the legal rights of the song and Beyoncé had no obligation whatsoever to ask permission of her to use it. Even though Kelis does not have a writing credit on Milkshake, Beyoncé STILL gave her credit on Energy so that she would get royalties from it. And she still came out talking **** just because she expected a personal call from Beyoncé letting her know about it. And that's why she was removed as to make a point, not because she *had* to do it. 6 1
ANG3L Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Nicki sampling is just corny, everything sounds like a parody

Devin Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 “respectful use of samples” heavy sampling has always been a thing in the Black community whether it was blatant or made with a twist.
Shelter Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Beyoncé’s is very creative. Nicki is just lifting the original and remixing it no shame
justin. Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 We need to stop disrespecting Renaissance with these threads. It’s like comparing a Bugatti with a Toyota Prius. 1 1
