In like 20 years, Dua's debut will probably have sold 40m units or more. Such a huge era with countless hits that have made so much impact in the pop scene.

Bonus:

14. DUA LIPA - FUTURE NOSTALGIA: 8.2 MILLION UNITS

17. BILLIE EILISH - WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?: 7.8 MILLION UNITS

18. OLIVIA RODRIGO - SOUR: 7.8 MILLION UNITS

Biggest artist of her generation? I think so

Love Dua but that era of hers wasn't as big as 21 , staking on post release singles for a "complete edition" is not as impressive .

It actually is and more artists should do it. If they’re actually able to get as much hits as her, that is

Sure, she's the one singing on them. But the point is that they were added after the original release, while 21 had nothing of the sorts.

Nevertheless her debut still was a big era in the UK.

How did you calculate those units? Can you post a source pls

Dua Lipa is 3x Platinum aka 900k units

21 is 18x Platinum aka 5.4M units

Well yes! But she actually had mega streaming hits released after her album release that she was ABLE to tack on. That’s difficult to have not everybody has that

This + streaming era have made it easier for singles/tracks to score certifications. And hard for albums to score certifications, overall it is easier to collect more total units than digital era.

At least Globally it isn't

but I agree

her strategy of releasing an investing into singles, really payed off

fans need to remember that tactics are still really important (especially these days when everything is so different than before and old professionals, aren't super viable as they were in the old climate)

And if Adele tacked Skyfall onto 21 like Ms Lipa did with every song she featured on over the 3 years after her self-titled?

That's not how stuff should be counted. The album certifications already include the streams/sales from all the tracks and an album unit is not equivalent to a track unit.

You should only compare album to album. 21 is at least 5 times more successful than Dua Lipa in the UK.

That's true. She has the streaming hits. My faves could never. But that wasn't the point. The point was she never would've overtaken 21 without them.

Still congrats to her. Her debut is a great album.

People mentioning the complete edition seem to think that racking up hit after hit in your album cycle is a drag :kitty:

Dua's first album is so good and for me has more replay value than FN. She was just effortlessly cool that era with her finger absolutely on the pulse of UK pop music at the time.

I do think this points to a lack of comparability between digital era and streaming era numbers in the UK though (and the same also applies to physical era vs digital era). It was much harder to shift units during the digital era given the amount of piracy, so now we have older songs that are known by the whole UK population being supposedly outsold by newer quick little hits.
