Is Taylor the music equivalent of The MCU?

-Hugely successful

- Four quadrant friendly

- Mostly positive, if not suspicious, critical reception

- Uses Easter eggs and clues to entice excitement among fans

- Occasionally takes progressive stance, but in a very calculated and digestible way

- Taylor is rumored to be in Deadpool 3, so the synergy is already in the works

But we need a week without any threads about her power

She's MCU without the flops and critically panned reviews.

Did MCU win any major Oscar??

No they didn't

So argument ends here.

Taylor has 3 AOTY and many other highly acclaimed award.

No MCU has been far more boundary pushing and has made cultural impact globally.

She’s Disney. Aside from the multi-generational audience and four-quadrant appeal, she also utilizes business practices perfected by the House of Mouse.

Her rerecordings are conceptually similar to Disney’s live action remakes in that both reinvigorate interest in the title, allow new merchandizing opportunities, and further cement the legacy of the original material. The rerecordings also benefit from an empowering narrative of artistic reclamation, whereas Disney’s live films are generally written off as mere cash grabs.

Disney also has a history with a “vault.” For most of their history, the company “vaulted” films in order to create scarcity in the market. Then they would take films out of the vault for limited periods, generally to adapt to new mediums (VHS to DVD to Bluray) or celebrate anniversary editions—often with “never before seen” bonus content “from the vault.” Conveniently, these limited releases would occur just often enough for the material to be marketed again to a whole new generation of youngsters. I think Taylor similarly manipulates the availability of her physical releases (particularly notable with vinyl) to create false scarcity and drive up sales when there is a new batch released.

Don’t get me started on the self-mythologizing.

The way that Taylor retains the support of fans as they grow up whilst simultaneously drawing in new generations is straight out of Disney’s playbook. Not just them. Barbie, Lego, Pokemon, Star Wars, Mario, Lord of the Rings, James Bond, Marvel and DC, and so forth. Brands do this, but nobody does it better than Disney. And until Taylor, I’m not sure that any singular living individual really did it on quite this scale, either.

Aside from taking notes from Disney’s business habits, she’s also got: the combination of critical acclaim and commercial success typical of their classic films; the “safe” image highlighted by lightly “progressive” posturing (and accompanying ridiculous, overblown conservative backlash); the easter eggs and self-referencing across her work; the fans who rabidly collect and create themed merch, and who dress up as their favorite character / version of Taylor.

MCU is a juggernaut in most countries in the world. Taylor struggles to go #1 on the singles charts in most countries.

I'd say no.

Don't you have better things to do like convincing fellow duasters that the flop dua lipa song is a flop because it is "psychedelic music" and that it will revive in January than commenting in every Taylor thread praying for her downfall.. like

No It's biggest than Marvel and Marvel doesn't have 3 best picture wins at the Oscars.

Marvels is more like in the teen choices field like Nicki.

Ur post doesnt have anything to do with my post tho. Who I am a fan of doesnt correlate with my opinion on Taylor.

Just like the MCU destroyed the film industry, Taylor's monopoly is harmful to the music industry. There's a reason each year those "best songs of xyz" lists get worse and worse

Taylor can do blockbuster pop anthems that appeal to every demographic, yes. But she can also do devastating artful intimate moments like "Peace, "Epiphany", "Marjorie", "Bigger than the Whole Sky". No shade to MCU but they have never given art.

Yes.
