Dr. Alexander Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 She deserves more respect honestly. People want to hold her lack of vocal ability and voice mixing against her, but you have other artists such as Elvis who are praised to the high heavens, but he continuously stole records from Black artists. She definitely deserved an Oscar nomination for Hustlers but she was shut out because she hasn’t branded herself as this “serious actor” in Hollywood. But yet, you have other actresses in the same league such as Jennifer Aniston getting SAG Awards and Jennifer Coolidge getting EMMY Awards. I am not the one to pull the race card at everything, but Hollywood likes to pick and choose who they want to respect. They would rather respect the white than the minorities. Plus, “All I Have” is without a doubt one of the greatest duets in pop music history. It definitely should’ve won a GRAMMY. 3 1
SinnerCity Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 She’s an icon for what she represents and for what women can achieve with hard work and dedication. I’m fairly certain she’s aware that her talents can’t compete with those who’ve won the awards she mentioned and I’m sure she’s fine with it.
Babar2009 Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Many of her contemporaries aren’t still on peoples lips, I’m not a fan of hers, but she stays relevant good or bad good for her 1
Brikenbur Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 J. Lo was killing it in the late 90’s well into the early to mid 2000’s with hit singles such as “If You Had My Love,” “Waiting for Tonight,” “Jenny from the Block” just to name a few. She’s also starred in back-to-back hit movies. She IS an icon and people on social media try and negate her credibility, but, look at the resume! 5
RIKI232 Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Shes a great actress and need to be recognized as one
gettsleazy Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 She's a perpetual "meh" and will never be taken seriously by The Academy or the Grammys because she's branded herself for mass consumption. It's corny and tired. I don't think she'll ever be able to "prove herself" because of this, so she should stick to collecting checks and making blockbusters 2 1

Well also don’t forget she’s doing it all and was one of the first in mainstream to do it successfully (music, movies, performing, business). Maybe now it’s standard for any pop girl to do it all, or at least try to. But it wasn’t standard at all. Apart from maybe Bette Midler. But her having juggled all of those things for multiple decades has also worked against her in having peers from respective industries not respect her enough to give her her dues. It’s what she touches on in her full speech (pg. 1). Because let’s be clear, she’s clearly on par as an actress with many of her respected peers that are getting acclaim but just focus on 1 industry. It’s been over 25 years since, people change. Also, like others have said, most of the awards, especially nowadays are meaningless and pretty much everyone knows her and respects her work so she still won in the end. 2

Even though Netflix is releasing Sofia Vergara’s version of the same story and Jen’s has been in development for like 8 years 💀
Frozen99 Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 she really is a jennifer of all trades, master of none but what i say is that she def deserves a golden globe or a latin grammy... the fact she was nominated only twice for grammy 1
qurl Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 she doesn’t have an Oscar but she’s proven she’s a great actress ‘Enough’ would have never won an oscar bc it’s not a particularly well directed movie but her performance in that role ….. stunning ! 1
harwee Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 (edited) Icon Award >>>> Also she has multiple GLADD awards Edited December 6, 2023 by harwee

Yeah, she's a businesswoman first and foremost. Music and films are just part of her portfolio, she's good at what she does, she's not the best hence is why it is difficult for her to stand out and I don't think that's a bad thing to be fair, she's got her hit singles and cult classic films like Anaconda and The Cell and she's a household name, people will always know Jennifer Lopez and that's my point. 1
Triton Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 So a fifth award her manager set up and got since she showed up? Basically a participation reward. 1

SpaceOddity Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 I like how we're pretending that people hate poor J Lo all of a sudden for no reason. This woman has over the years been called on multiple occasions by so many fans and workers as a nightmare to work with and a genuinely horrible person. She doesn't deserve ****. Imagine being both talentless AND mean. Pick a struggle. 6 1 4
