Lil Nas X, what happened?

he coasted off hype and momentum so a hiatus will probably cost him

I feel like he's the type of artist that needs to disappear for a bit otherwise his shtick gets annoying very fast.

If I'm not mistaken there was a bit of a break from Old Town Road/his first EP (which I think had another relatively successful single) and the Montero era (proper debut album).

Tbh haven't thought of that

but it is logical, since he is smart enough (how he blew up after all) to think ahead

Old Town Road was smashing in 2019 (+Panini afterwards)

2020 was a bit empty..but I still remember that Holiday track that he did

with 2021 came Montero (IB,TWIW) - okay, full era.
2022 - (2 singles like 2020) --- (he did the League song)

and 2023 was a total shutdown... no new music at all - I wonder if he was supposed to start something this year..

I like him and have always rooted for him on ATRL, but I am kind of worried that he wont continue his success

especially when the snippets he has been giving, dont sound much interesting to me (not that I am an expert, but still..havent seen anyone talking about them)

I have the same concern. Almost forgot about him until I saw this thread

Gimmicks don't have longevity

he hasn't even released anything :rip: if he has released a new single and it's flopping then you make this kinda thread

Columbia was focused on Harry in 2022 and Miley this year, I'm sure he'll get his turn next year

He's taking way too long to release imo, 3 years and not even a hit single in between? :skull: That may have been standard back in the day but we're in 2023 and attention spans are shorter than ever, just look at Olivia lowkey underperforming and she had far more hype & anticipation than Nas currently does

I feel like he used all the possible gimmicks with this first album, what's he gonna do next to grab the headlines?

Leak his sex tape with Jack Harlow :ryan3:

Isn't he pretending to be in his Christian era is his new insta posts and already made many people mad for making fun of god

This>>>>> hes a "flop" but everything he does makes its way towards HEADLINES. plus don't forget hes signed to one of the BEST record labels in the world; and they have no problem with giving their SUCCESSFUL artists a huge budget. why wouldn't they? He has 3 #1's and is one of their most popular pop boys. Harry is on a break, The Kid Laroi is flopping.... why wouldn't they give him everything he needs for this next era. He def won't bomb.

Plus don't forget, "Star-Walkin" was a promo single for League of Legends and actually did well on charts (it also wasn't sent to major radio and has 300 million streams); plus "Late To Da Party" was a "diss" to BET and was surprised released with a "no budget" music video and had NO play-listing (but still charted).

He was lucky to achieve what he did on borrowed time. Let’s let queer artists with actual talent get a turn

Image issues and label inter workings

Y’all have heard how mentally damaging it is to constantly be working and chasing fame and success. Why are you surprised that some people want to take a break? I’m sure he’d rather lose momentum than lose his mind.

He became too polarising with the gender ambiguity. People stanned him because he was masc.

Are you trolling because girl what are you talking about? Before like 3 years ago, every artist used to disappear for at least a year between album cycles. That is literally how it worked for ages. How is it not good for him to do what most artists have done for decades?

Taylor releasing all the time has made people forget what a traditional album release cycle looks like.

Disappear? Sis this is not 2004 anymore where people need album rollout, hiatus', pap photos etc. Taylor is not the reason for this, we consume entertainment much differently now.

It's clear Lil Nas X is a product of that change which is why people are surprised he would take a self-prescribed "break". This is a celebrity that relies on social media trends, engagement and controversy to sell anything.

You can see the GP is moving on, and the gay community is tired of being a caricature to offend the masses. Definitely image issues, and lack of direction right now. I'm sure he'll come out with a minor hit in the next year, but I think it's kind of it for him.

Tbh, Todrick Hall should have had Nas' viral moment seeing as his music is actually really good.

It's only so far gimmicks without substance will take you.
