BrentB Posted December 5, 2023 Posted December 5, 2023 (edited) So this is just a thread to touch base on where y'all are at vs. where you wanna be in life. Are you currently living in the city/town of your dreams? Or do you feel stuck where you're at and feel like you have to settle? I live in Toronto currently. I'm in a good area but I feel like it's a settle since I'm rooming w people & ideally, I'd like to be in the UK. I have had this burning curiosity to live in London for some reason. Anyone here from the UK peep game if it's safe ? Edited December 5, 2023 by BrentB
byzantium Posted December 5, 2023 Posted December 5, 2023 Currently not where I want to be. I moved to Boston for school and was offered a job that did not make sense to turn down. But my plan is to eventually get back home as soon as reasonable.
Jotham Posted December 5, 2023 Posted December 5, 2023 No. I moved back to the Bay Area and to be honest... I hate it. I miss Los Angeles so much. I had to move out of there during COVID and haven't lived there since. Every negative thing that people say about Los Angeles is present in the Bay Area but 100x worse: inequality, elitist people, etc.
ATRL Moderator Azulito Posted December 5, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted December 5, 2023 I've moved twice to live where I really wanted to be and have no regrets. If possible, I'd recommend visiting for an extended period of time (at least a month) before moving officially. Find a local neighborhood and try to get into a routine that you'd have if you really lived there.
Joyride Posted December 5, 2023 Posted December 5, 2023 I ******* hate this country and city with a passion
LCTV Posted December 5, 2023 Posted December 5, 2023 (edited) I moved to Oakland last October and I've been very blessed with my current situation. Great Job (Owner is a family friend) Comfortable living arrangement My brother is literally 10 min from me Cali weather and just having access to now travel the west coast when it was exclusive before (I moved from being on the East Coast my whole life) So I'm very content right now Edited December 5, 2023 by LCTV

I came in here to say I live in London and am stuck here, it's a horrible city to LIVE in and a country that is on the brink of collapse, I wasted 6 years of my life in this country and words can not describe how much I hate it here 1

Same with São Paulo vs Piauí. Everything is relative.

DamianSolo Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 I live in Louisiana and have a very strong love/hate relationship with it. The only reason I stay is because of immediate family, otherwise I'd have been gone. I could eventually see myself making a home for myself in a place like Seattle, Denver or Portland. More realistically, though, I could also see myself living in or around Dallas; I always really did love that area.

Anyone here from the UK peep game if it's safe ? I’ve lived in London for a handful of years and relative to other cities of its size it’s safe. Muggings and stuff aren’t common at all, it’s never happened to me or any of my friends, petty theft is more an issue… it’s super common for people going by on bikes to snatch your phone out your hands as they go past in any part of the city. Other than that it’s an awesome city to live in if you have the money.
BletaRexher Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 I live in one of the cheapest cities in America and I’ve never seen the appeal of living in a massive city like LA or NYC. I might go a little bigger to Kansas City someday but that’s it.
Taylor Sniffs Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 I split my time between Kuala Lumpur and Manila. I would love to live in Bangkok, Singapore, or Taipei.
John Slayne Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 I live in a small city in England and have mixed feelings about it. On one hand it's a very beautiful and safe place to live in, I have friends and work that I like here. On the other hand... it feels very small sometimes. Especially the gay community, everyone knows everyone which is both good and bad. I've never lived in a big city before and kinda want to know what it's like. I think I'd start hating it after a year but still, it'd be nice to have that experience and be able to say 'been there, done that'.
Hallad173 Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Settling at the moment. San Antonio is comfortable enough and I’m working on my degree anyway so I’m settled for the next 2 years but the East Coast is on my mind.
zasderfght Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 (edited) I live in the States, and I live in one of the 3rd largest cities in the world. I love my apartment & I love living with my boyfriend. The property manager is also very reasonable. However, street parking is TERRIBLE (both my partner and I drive). If you're not by my apartment by 3pm, you basically have to circle the block since a lot of parking is reserved for disabled folks or there are tow zones. Where I live is great because my commute to work is decent, and we're by basically any pharmacy and grocery chain. The part of the city I live in I don't necessarily mind-- it's not the best place in the city, nor is it the worst. The bad news is the neighbors in our building and neighbors in apartment buildings near us are horrible. If I could take the exact same apartment and move to a quiet suburb or a part in the city that's close to the suburbs, I'd be a lot happier. That and having a parking garage or permitted parking. I don't need to be a homeowner or rent a home just yet. As long as my space is clean, has modern amenities & furniture, and I feel safe where I live, those are the big ones for me Edited December 6, 2023 by zasderfght

Anyone here from the UK peep game if it's safe ? I live in the UK and am moving to Toronto soon. There's a real miserable feeling in the UK at the moment that everything is just kind of falling apart and about to implode I've spent a few weeks in Toronto and I would say that Toronto is on the whole much safer than London, but London isn't really that bad. It's also big but very dense, and too small for all the people in it. It's gotten better since a lot of people left London during COVID but that's the instantly noticeable difference for me, you don't feel trapped like a tin of sardines where you cannot escape and cannot get out in some other cities.
Capris Groove Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 I moved from Toronto to Vancouver last year and couldn't be happier. Despite what I was told, the cost of living is basically the same, but in Vancouver you have room to breathe, and abundant, breathtaking nature all around you. Going to the beach after work in the summer is a dream. The mountains in the winter are incredible. People are more laid back and not as career obsessed as in Toronto. I miss some things about Toronto, but here it's the perfect mix of city and nature for me. 1
shinyshimmery Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 I like where I live. I grew up in Houston and all my family is here too so I don't see myself moving to another state/country in the foreseeable future.
