“My songs tend to have very slow but stable growth over time. There’s always something that’s a little weird about them that [makes you] want to listen to them more. They grow slowly, but they stick around. And that’s all I want: I think the longevity is more important than the instant-hit thing.”

That's the truth, beautiful words Dua, everyone likes your music (general public) because is unique.

Houdini will be forgotten in January so they can always re-release it and pretend November release didn't happen :gaycat2:

I mean it's true however, unfortunately, I feel like the quality of her work in particular is not appreciated, we can all  agree Future Nostalgia was an AMAZING pop album, like it was so well crafted, it's catchy and modern, yet the songs have this timeless feels to them, yet it feels like people just moved on from Dua because I think Houdini is amazing and should have smashed right out of gate based on FN hype alone but it's kinda flopping?

Just shows her star isn't big enough to get a hit on name alone. Not even a drag at Dua, because personally, I don't think this is her fault.

When was the last time Kevin Parker produced a hit? :rip:

Longevity or paid-for playlisting Dua?

She’s talking like this a little too early in her career. Usually you save these types of comments for once you’ve become an icon.

Has me worried about the next project. :bloo:

just rihlease Training Season, whose title already sounds like a smash, miss dular

Houdini is cute, but certain production choices* keep it from being the mega smash they needed :giraffe:

*starting with the chorus before the first verse was a no

*not having an instrumental break before the second verse also a no

*the rest is marvelous

What exactly is weird about her songs? Maybe her earlier ones had a slightly indie feel to them but everything from FN to now has been straight-up formulaic pop.

She's RIGHT and she SHOULD say it!

her name alone does not guarantee a hit?  Then why did Houdini fly up the Pop and Hot Ac charts and is currently #11 only 2 weeks later?

I don't listened to this woman but the amount of hate she's getting from ATRL gays is worrying tbh, what exactly did she do for some of y'all?  Let the girl live

And that’s clearly because of radio deal (payola, in the other words) cause this song is nowhere to be found inside the top 100 of any US streaming platforms :suburban:

And that’s not the reason why it’s not inside the top 200 of US Apple Music. I mean, even You Need To Clam Down makes it

Stream Houdini for long life :clap3:

I mean, this was probably the case for her debut era, but all or most of the Future Nostalgia singles were instant hits, maybe with the exception of Love Again and We’re Good.

I enjoy Houdini and it’s position on the charts is irrelevant to my levels of enjoyment towards the song, but if she or her team are concerned about it’s level of success, go out and promote. I’ve not seen her promote this heavily yet and I’m not sure what her excuse is. They could have booked a strictly gig, Graham Norton, Live Lounge, they’re bare minimum when it comes to UK promo.

artists should NEVER comment on the charts unless they're thanking their fans for a high debut or celebrating a #1.

commenting on a struggling single's chart performance will only ever make you look like a flop, and it will lead to more flops in the future.

learn from the other girls' mistakes miss dua.

I mean she is right

But the timing for this is awful.

She is serving mental breakdown after break up

Hopefully this just means the promo is comming

I think she’s just letting America know that her production might sound a little “weird” at first (to that region), but if they stick with her, the songs are solid and they are there.

So much stupidity has been said about “Houdini” since it premiered (across all social media), that nobody should be surprised if the reactions freak Warner’s out to the point where DL4 in 2026 ends up being a vanilla “Love + Fear” type album.
