Expecting her to do Taylor numbers when her approach has been almost the complete opposite just makes no sense. Disappointing numbers but it’s really getting treated like a limited release outside US. The amount of cinemas screening the movie was not good, and at best those only showed it once or twice per day, it’s also completely gone from some markets after just a weekend.

 

It’s getting the live-streamed show kind of affair when it’s half a concert and half a life story / celebration of ball culture / behind the scenes documentary.

I mean, Beyonce's work is framed by a history of racial politics, LGBTQ politics, history of music and culture. If you can't grasp that and just reduce it to "pretentiousness" I don't know what to tell ya.

 

As for the children part, I'm just going by what people said they saw in screenings  I guess older fans move on to more mature stuff and she hooks in new children with lyrics like "I have this thing where I get older but just never wiser"
