Revolution Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 The male Katy Perry. The male female MJ. 5
naval23 Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 There's definitely similarities but Post Malone's was less abrupt. Even Austin spent 14 weeks on the Billboard 200, Twelve Carat was top 60 year end and made year end the year after, Austin made #158 on the year end Meanwhile, Witness was #91 year end and Smile charted for 4 weeks total (5-54-104-160-OUT)
Anti-Hero Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 Katy is a still bigger Celebrity! TD will always be Iconic, no album by Post is the same!!!!

Bingo Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 NOT The International Mathematical Olympiad taking place on ATRL 2
Robburro Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 and both promised acoustic albums that never came!
Digitalism Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 It's true But as some other user have said I don't understand why did PM fell with the GP. He just faded. Where with Katy we all know why the GP turned on her
AidanUnderYou Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 The way the pandemic killed the careers of Post Malone and Khalid when they were everywhere in 2017/18 was so crazy it’s like the GP just stopped caring overnight Also, I thought I Like You was from Austin when I seen his albums listed. I didn’t even realise he released another one after that single 1

If anyone can come up with a positive answer, then this would mean that we have two sets of parallel lines traveling on parallel lines, which would make it a reverse Warholian expedition. 2 hours ago, PoisonCandy said: I'm not old enough or educated enough on the history of pop music to answer this question, but I'd also like to know. I remember back in 2013 people used to say Katy was mirroring/going to mirror Madonna's career, and that Gaga would end up with a career similar to Cyndi Lauper. Neither ended up happening, obviously, so the Post Malone/Katy Perry one is probably the closest we have right now. I never realised it until now. Definitely interested in the Paula Abdul one. I can't think of anyone American, but in the UK there was Jason Donovan who had quite a similar trajectory to Paula. His first album yielded 3 number one hits and 5 consecutive top 5 hits (basically the same as Paula's 4 number ones and 5 consecutive top 5 hits), and was big around the same time as Paual's Forever Your Girl (1988/89). The album itself was a huge success too, going 5X platinum and setting him up well for the future. His second album was released in 1990 (compared to Paula's 1991 sophomore), and was another major success, going multi-platinum (similar to Paula's Spellbound), though sales for this album were half of his debut (the same as Paula). Both albums yielded 5 top 20 hits and 3 top ten hits, and the artists continued to score number one smashes in this era too (although Jason's number one wasn't on this album but instead a live theatre recording). Then they went away for a few years (Jason for 3 and Paula for 4), and came back with a new album that severely underperformed. Paula's Head Over Heels peaked at number 18 and Jason's All Around The World peaked at number 27. The biggest hits from both albums only reached the top 30, and the final single flopped so badly it didn't even chart. Neither album netted any major certifications (Paula's was gold, Jason is gold eligible but not certified), After that both acts went away till the late 2000s, where they tried unsuccessfully to make a comeback. Jason ended up releasing a few more albums after that compared to Paula's zero (she only released singles and compilation LPs), and both are largely forgotten compared to their long-lasting peers from back in the day to whom they were heavily compared to (Janet for Paula and Kylie for Jason). 2
starataneori Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 they were also both featured in Pokemon soundtrack!
BlossomSoul Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 The first line of this post is beautiful and touching

I could totally see this actually, lol. He would be someone I can see taking the "country" boy judge position that someone like Blake on TV or Luke on Ai has, there is always a country male archetype judge on these shows. Post has really leaned into his country side more in the 2020s so it would kinda make sense.
Pop Art Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 I've thought this for a while too, there are definitely parallels. Also, to people saying Hollywood's Bleeding was actually his peak and that breaks the comparison: you have to keep in mind that album was significantly inflated by him slapping on Sunflower, which if I recall correctly was released well before the album was even in mind. For example, comparing their EAS from Chartmasters: One of the Boys: 11.7M | Stoney: 13.2M Teenage Dream: 25.6M | Beerbongs & Bentleys: 17.4M Prism: 13.9M | Hollywood's Bleeding: 18.2M Witness: 2.8M | Twelve Carat Toothache: 3.3M Smile: 2.7M | Austin: 1.4M It may look like Hollywood's Bleeding is his peak, but then when we remove the EAS generated just from Sunflower, we get: One of the Boys: 11.7M | Stoney: 13.2M Teenage Dream: 25.6M | Beerbongs & Bentleys: 17.4M Prism: 13.9M | Hollywood's Bleeding: 13.9M Witness: 2.8M | Twelve Carat Toothache: 3.3M Smile: 2.7M | Austin: 1.4M It would be similar to Gaga slapping Shallow on Joanne (I would say Chromatica, but it would actually work sonically on Joanne so we'll use that for this example), which would take it from its current EAS of 3.5M to somewhere between 6-7M.
modeblock Posted August 18 Posted August 18 post Malone switched like a fagg--t to pander to white audiences in this MAGA'd era we live in... And Katy ran back to a rapist, I do see some parallels! 1

State of Grace. Posted August 18 Posted August 18 (edited) Welp. He left Katheryn in the khia asylum. And since she can't book A-list collabs nowadays, her fans can pray for Doechii, 21 Savage, or Kim Petras to revive her career. Edited August 18 by State of Grace. 7

He had the most payolad single of the year which did 14mil first day and booked every country artist in the world on his album+ got a huge industry push from Taylor & Beyonce but still only did 30mil? His next album won't get the same payola and will be back to doing Smile numbers

CherryBay Posted August 18 Posted August 18 But problem is Katy would never release such a good album like F1 no matter what genre so your conclusion is kinda off 1

Capitol tried enough since 2017 I think
