sunbathinganimal Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 Last night, I made this poll: in response to a similar one concerning Ms Britney Spears: I was surprised to wake up this morning to find that far more people voted for Björk as a legend than Britney (75% and 55% in their respective polls). Are you similarly shocked by these results? Is Björk really more of a legend than Britney Spears? Discuss.
Afterglow Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 I truly believed if you lined everyone you know up and asked them to list 3 bjork songs off the top of their head, they wouldn't be able to do it. 1
dumbsparce Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 The icelandic translation of Britney is Bjork. So no, they're equally legendary. 3 1 6
Eternium Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 Bjork is, unfortunately, unknown to most people. She isn’t legendary despite being highly experimental and influential. Hopefully time will see her get her flowers. Britney Spears is obviously more legendary.
CBC Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 Obviously. She has spent 30 years pushing music boundaries and being successful at it. There is a reason Björk is still cited today by a panoply of musicians as a major inspiration for their work. Her influence spreads across various music genres, is multi generational and is international. Mind you nothing I said undermines Britney's status. 1
The Slayer Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 LMAO. I couldn't name a single song from 'Bjork'. Poor Britney.
bjorn Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 Bjork is NOT a legend what the hell are yall smoking 1

Björk is way more talented and influential. 1 1
Raptus Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 I don't know. But I know she's more of a legend than Christina. 2

Horse Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 They're in totally different lanes so this comparison doesn't make any sense. Both are legends in their own right though. 1

Daddy Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 They have both the same impact. Britney for the commercial girlies and Björk for the alt-sissies. They both are childhood to me and both legendary for very different reasons. 1
Erreur2 La Nature Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 « I was surprised to wake up this morning to find that far more people voted for Björk as a legend than Britney (75% and 55% in their respective polls). » Are you genuinely surprised that Bjork does not have obsessed haters on ATRL sis ?
Cruel Summer Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 As far as pop culture and widespread impact on music fans’ lives, I think Britney is the bigger legend. She was obviously more popular, she still has tons of devoted fans and casual fans, and her presence and story meaningfully changed pop culture permanently. You can’t talk about pop culture 1999 and onward without talking about Britney. On the other hand, while Björk impacted less people by way of not really being a radio-ready artist, she impacted her audience more deeply and has influenced the direction of music itself and audiovisual art in general. In that way, I can see an argument for her being “more” of a legend - her discography is universally acclaimed, it’s respected as one of the greatest in music history, and she strives to actually push art forms forward with her work (and has successfully done so). There’s room for both perspectives. 2
