DemDam92 Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 Mariah obviously did phenomenal during the physical era (90s and early 2000s) She did great in digital era (WBT, DFAU, Touch My Body, Obsessed) and continues to chart in the streaming era (Beautiful, All I Want For Xmas going #1 each year, Oh Santa charting). Her “it’s time” video was viewed over 120 mio. Times on Twitter. Can we all agree that Mariah is one of the kind to chart best way possible with her long career and age during all these eras and still remaining relevant today? Discuss 6

Yes, Elton is also a good answer but what’s his big hit in the digital era ? plus, we can agree women are affected by ageism in the industry much more than men right? allforyou Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 Absolutely. Despite being in the business for over 30 years Mariah is still relevant and continues to get a smash hit every year I don’t see anyone else doing it like her
Punky Rooster Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 Not really. I mean, the Xmas song is always going to smash, just because of playlisting and everything...but she needed to have a new cute solo hit again in her 40s or 50s to have any ongoing chart relevance - as everything solo after 2009 has flopped, and It's a Wrap didn't really do anything despite being "big" on TikTok etc.

ATRL Moderator wehavetostan Posted November 25, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted November 25, 2023 Yes but we need the audience to stream her new work too. Caution was one of the best albums of 2018 and The Distance was the smash that got away 1
Geraldine Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 No lol. it'd be madonna or queen who'are not an xmas meme 1 2
Funnyfatty Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 Mariah always gets the last laugh. I’m sure she will get herself another huge hit this decade. I expect in 2025 her to have another top 10. 1

Mariah has proved time and time again that she's a one-of-a-kind artist, exceptional vocalist and songwriter. The more people attempt to count her out, the stronger she comes back. It's quite legendary to be honest.
oduplomarte Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 but this year she will lose to brenda lee

That's what artists do. In the 2020s decade, she has not released a new album. Right now, she is touring the US, a tour which will gross $25 million with 16 shows. I think she is taking amazing care of her legacy. 1

Right, many people forget that it sold over 1 million singles in Japan alone in 1994. The song sold an estimated 2,5 million physical singles during its run so far. Then in the digital era (2003-) it sold a further 12 million digital downloads globally. After that, in the streaming era (2014-) it moved another 20 million units. At 35 million in consumption sales so far - it is one of the biggest songs in the history of music: 14 million certified - USA 4,2 million certified - UK 2,2 million certified - Japan 1 million certified - Germany 800k certified - Canada = 22 million units certified in those 5 markets.
