The7thStranger Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 I think people can easily identify with the Spice Girls. And they were very dedicated to their craft. 1 1
ATRL Moderator supaspaz Posted November 24, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted November 24, 2023 Quality, for one. “Boyz” was a career-ending disaster.
Abracadabra Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 a few reasons, partly because they capitalised on the hype and released very shortly after the group broke-up/went on hiatus, partly because cheryl and the spice girls were huge household names and the british press was obsessed with them and even though LM are very famous they are more well known as a group, and also because the fact that their solo careers were launched in the physical and digital era helped their chart peaks. I still think it's too soon to count all the LM girls out though
KFC Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 Well the whole reason LM were formed was because none of them were big enough stars to make it solo 1
EtherealCat Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 the little mix girls are all too old, too far removed from little mixs peak and nowhere near as famous
Digitalism Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 The spice girls were just too big Because quality wasn't a factor there

Cheers Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 The UK doesn't want black women to succeed 5

I can only imagine how big their careers would have been if their labels actually had spent money on giving them huge global hits. None of the girls on Little mix have star power. They are actually really annoying 2
wigglytuffer Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 I think the formula for success was so different back then to what it is now. When the Spice Girls were going solo, the era of CD singles was in full swing; you could promote a song for 4-6 weeks before it was released with TV performances, radio interviews, festival slots etc. All efforts were concentrated in that first week to get a nice peak. Couple that with the Spice Girls' unprecedented fame - comparable to The Beatles at their peak - and you have a recipe for success. The girls also came out with solo singles within a year of the Spice Girls disbanding so the hype was still there Girls Aloud achieved 20 consecutive top 10 singles and had this formula down perfectly (the pre-promotion, tv performances, radio appearances). I haven't actually looked into the stats of the following weeks but I would hazard a guess they fell off quite quickly after their first weeks on the charts (and that's no shade, I LOVE Girls Aloud). The reason Cheryl achieved mainstream success and the other GA girls didn't is down to The X Factor and her media presence. 2009-2012 Cheryl was literally everywhere. Girls dyed their hair to look like her, she was in the tabloids for the Ashley Cole marriage drama and Fight For This Love is genuinely a brilliant pop song to kickstart your career with. Pretty much every Cheryl era started with a TV slot for promo (FFTL on The X Factor, Promise This on The X Factor, CMN on The Voice). She knew her formula and worked to be everywhere and slowed things down by album four. Little Mix's success came a lot later in their career. If you look at their single peaks from the first two eras, there nothing to shout home about. Black Magic turned it round for them and they had their imperial phase for album cycle four. Although Leigh-Anne came back with a song a year or so from the split, Little Mix don't have the formula locked down in the way that the Spice Girls or Girls Aloud did. Jesy only got that #4 peak because of Nicki Minaj fans and the drama around her leaving Little Mix. That being said, if anyone can get it, it's Jade or Perrie, arguably the two most popular members. 6

Also, it’s been the weakest debuting so far. Jade has the gays, and Perrie should have the GP. If they fail, then it’s over. 1
Attitude Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 They should've gone on a hiatus after Glory Days to capitalize off their peak. 1
Dialamba Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 The fact the two most popular haven’t debuted yet. A mess.
Romova99 Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 I think they took so long to debut since the band split also I don't see them bringing anything new to the table, I literally hear the same LM in Leigh's singles. 1
poki Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 Geri and Melanie made zero noise in the US and have dead stream # on Spotify (I say this as a fan of both, got Walk Away on repeat all day) so if they could barely maintain solo careers, LM had zero chance.

While Mel C and Geri have similar stats to her, I feel like Cheryl overall had a far bigger moment than either of them because those two were coming off a much bigger band than Cheryl and in a less competitive environment, yet Cheryl still had higher album and single sales. 2
poki Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 From what I know a top 10 hit in the UK is apparently not as good as in the US? Geri's label were in panic mode when SIYWGF peaked at #7.
Sad Serenade Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 Little Mix did great and are known as a group but none of them really shined as solo. Perrie a little bit more than the others but not enough. Anyway they need more time and material to have a full opinion about them as solo. 1
unclefloprry Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 They had no power as a group, now imagine as soloists + they are "old", most of the Spices did their solos in their 25s. 1
#Beautiful Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 the spice girls were HUGE so they were surely going to get attention, cheryl had great singles. jesy nelson and leigh anne werent that big to begin with 1
DiamondHoe Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 Spice Girls were a much bigger band = more hype Cheryl had a much bigger moment (tabloid QWEENNN) Little Mix’s career as a group had a lot more breadth than the others. There was no big IT girls moment however. Also as others have said, Perrie and Jade would’ve been the bigger two anyway… and they’ve yet to release 1
