Onto Spider-Man 2, and the PS5 game's launch was strong, with the first two weeks up nearly 30% compared with 2018's Spider-Man, and almost three times higher than 2020's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Compared with last year's big PlayStation game, God of War Ragnarok, the first two weeks of sales for Spider-Man 2 are 28% lower. However, that's because God of War was also released on PS4. If we focus on just PS5 sales, Spider-Man 2 outsold Ragnarok by 8% after two weeks.

Over in console hardware, PS5 is comfortably the No.1 console in Europe (across tracked markets, UK and Germany not included). PS5 sales are up 143% over October last year, driven by the availability of stock this time around. Nintendo Switch is at No.2 despite a 20% drop in sales compared with last October, while Xbox Series S and X sales continue to struggle in Europe, down 52% year-on-year.

In total, 481,000 consoles were sold across the tracked markets in October.

European GSD September 2023 Top 10 (Digital + Physical)

Position Title
1 EA Sports FC 24 (EA)
2 Assassin's Creed Mirage (Ubisoft)
3 Spider-Man 2 (Sony)
4 Super Mario Bros Wonder (Nintendo)*
5 Grand Theft Auto 5 (Rockstar)
6 Lords of the Fallen 2023 (CI Games)
7 Battlefield 2042 (EA)
8 Hogwarts Legacy (Warner Bros)
9 Red Dead Redemption 2 (Rockstar)
10 It Takes Two (EA)

Microsoft just had Starfield in September and a new Forza title in October...yet it sold 50k.

Last year's sales for the 3 consoles were:

PS5: 135k
Switch: 130k
XB:100K

Meaning that judging from their increases/decreases this year, we can guess the numbers for 2023:

PS5: 320K
Switch: 110k
XB: 50K

Like...how :rip:

The console is 3 years old, lmao.

This is mainland Europe, so it doesn't include UK and a few other markets, where Xbox is also getting stomped.

When your exclusive titles don’t serve CVNT like The Last of Us, Uncharted, God of War and Spider-Man do, you lose!

Selling less than half the amount of a console that came out almost 7 years ago  :deadbanana2: Truly an embarrassment!

For real… the fact Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5 are not coming for PS makes me depressed tbh I hate Microsoft.

They can flop as much as they want, Microsoft will just pour more infinite money until they own the entire industry #monopoly

Coming from a former Microsoft employee they truly do not care about console sales.

They literally care about gamepass and its adoption no matter where it is. The Xbox console is simply a platform for it. Once ES6, Fallout 5 and the Activision/Blizzard titles start making their way it'll be even better for Microsoft in the console space, obviously seeing as you cannot play those titles freely on any other and their some of the biggest franchises of all time. And Elder Scrolls is officially done on PS.

I've seen Phil talk about this, they don't even mention console sales. All they care about is software sales and subscriptions.

Barely anyone makes money on console sales only, it is 2023, a silly year to even bring it up really.

such a shame xbox had the potential to stomp ps5 into the ground too :celestial:

What do you need an Xbox for? Nintendo has exclusive games like Pokemon, Xenoblade etc. Sony has games like Spiderman and Horizon. Xbox needs to give gamers a reason to buy an Xbox. Maybe the tide will turn with the upcoming games. But I wouldn't be so sure about it.

I use Playstation, Nintendo and the Meta Quest. That's more than enough. I don't need a Gamepass.

Considering the amount of payola and marketing Playstation needs to achieve those numbers, it all makes sense in the end why Xbox is more profitable than them with fewer consoles :redface: And now with Activision, they'll also make more revenue

They aren't worried about PS5 in the slightest it would seem. And they still released better hardware regardless.

tbh with all the lawsuits recently I'd say Sony and a few other companies are terrified of Microsoft. They've always been the beast in the cage, being the youngest, richest and sexiest brand. Now people are worried about their sheer power in the industry as a whole, while some people are still fanboying on "console sales" like it's 2006.

You just answered your own question. Xbox has its exclusive games and Gamepass. And you really aren't sure if THE ELDER SCROLLS 6 will be a HUGE release for them? Cmon nah :coffee2: Put your fanboyism aside for a bit. Do yall even play video games here :isudumblmao:

Theres too many insecure fanboys sad Microsoft is buying up all their favs. Nintendo loves it though so no shade to them.

But the thing is, even they don't do software right which is supposed to be their field of expertise. Gamepass is great in value, however I don't recall a single recent blockbuster HIT in acclaim + playerbase in their catalogue.  Especially Bethesda, they can't keep getting away with buggy games and stale experiences anymore like it's 2011. Starfield was monotonous and lifeless, a critical bomb that I put it down after 30 hours which I literally forced myself to play. That studio was unstoppable at one point, but I guess they have COD and Blizzard.. :deadbanana2:

they should just stick to Open AI & their cloud business suite of products & softwares

PS5 will always win :coffee2:

As a very casual bystander, I've always found X-box's naming convention very confusing. Like how are you supposed to know a new one is out when you went from 360 to one to series :rip: Meanwhile PlayStation is very clearly 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.

You...do know most of Gamepass comes from consoles right? Not selling consoles literaly affects Gamepass directly :rip:

Xbox will end up as a 3rd party publisher and releasing most of their games on PS5 at the end of this gen...it's quite obvious that's where this is going. They make less money by having their games exclusive to Xbox and PC and they didn't spend almost 100b dollars to lose money now. COD will stay on Playstation cause they know they would lose money otherwise. Most of their franchises will be the same in the end.

Starfield is already with less daily players than...Skyrim on PC :rip:

What is payola in terms of console sales? Promoting your products? Xbox has consoles on sale for 300€ in Europe. Black Friday deals in Portugal have Series S + 3 months of Gamepass for 200€. Meanwhile PS5 is on sale for close to 500€. Can't wait to see those November sales for Xbox. I'm sure console sales will be much higher than PS5 :jonny6:
