poll Song and Record of the Year: 2001

Well, the 2000 poll saw us deviate from the Academy for the first time as Cher’s “Believe” (perhaps unsurprisingly) snatched the Record of the Year win out from under Santana’s feet with a whopping 53% of the vote. In fact, “Smooth” wasn’t even our second choice for Record, as TLC’s “No Scrubs” earned twice as many votes as it (but still less than half as many as “Believe”). The Song of the Year race was much more contested, with everyone earning more than 12% of the vote, but “Smooth” did ultimately prevail over the split field. 

In 2001, it was a “Beautiful Day” for U2 as they took home both Song and Record for the first time in their career. Will ATRL uphold those wins? I kind doubt it, given the competition! Cast your vote now!
