k4rmabutterfly
Three years into this decade and we only have Harry Styles (which is not even a new artist, he has been in the industry for more than ten years), Bad Bunny (only relevant to Spanish speakers) and Morgan (local to the US). Ten years ago we had Justin and 1D completely dominating stan culture, and 5 years ago we had men completely dominating everything, with new male artists popping up everyday. What went wrong? Do you think new male artists need to step up their game? Are you happy with this? Discuss.

Fitzswiftie
Because the only men with stage presence are either gay or Korean. and western English market still phobic of the homo and xeno variety. minor miracle Lil Nas X became as a huge as he did. Taylor fanboy
With the amount of effort most of them put in compared to women and LGBT artists, I’d say they are still overperforming.
Power love
It’s also hard for female artists as well. It’s just hard to blow up in general now a day compared to 15-20 years ago. Look at how many artists that are trying to make it & compare it to artist that are big enough for the general public to recognize. Rev8
The ones u mentioned, are still plenty tho? especially after we recently had a wave of male dominance in music I guess it might be awhile after someone big comes again ..but music is currently changing a lot, so everything is possible in the future (and probably not on the trend we've seen or expect)

Trent W
Girls are struggling too The only new female big artist we’ve got this decade is Olivia Rodrigo No one is making it anymore, big labels are useless and the industry is now dominated by niche artist with their audiences The superstar is gone 3

twink4harry
Combination of things. Some male artists don't have the quality music. Some don't have the artistic creativity when it comes to their visuals, aesthetic, etc. Some get screwed over by their label in the midst of their mainstream rise (Laroi for example). Some are great, but are either independent (Djo for example) or don't get the proper promo (or both). I think it also comes down to audience. You have to build an audience, and that usually takes a bit of time. Harry and Dua are heavy hitters now, but their debut eras weren't nearly as bigger as their latter eras. Look at how hard they were pushing Gaga and Katy in the late 2000s or Britney in her early years for example. You also have gay men on here and other social media sites that go out of their way to not give male artists a chance, so you lose a bit of potential success there. Artists like Harry and Justin have artistic visions, they have name and face recognition, they've built their audiences, etc., whereas newer male artists have to try and breakthrough in a lot of ways. You have to make people like your music, you have to make people remember your name and your face, and you have to have the proper promo and rollouts to solidify your spot in the mainstream. True it is harder to make a name for yourself and build a solid base in 2023. 5 or so years ago it seemed to be a bit easier

John Slayne
men are definitely bigger and are selling more, have been since always. each of the men in the OP is bigger than any pop girl that debuted this decade so i'd say it's the girls who are struggling
